FCA begins production of 2019 Ram 1500 eTorque mild-hybrid in U.S.

Ram 1500s with the eTorque hybrid system combined with V6 and Hemi 5.7-liter V8 engines have begun production at FCA’s Sterling Heights Assembly Plant and are currently arriving in U.S. dealerships.
The eTorque Rams are the first high-volume pickups to use the technology.
The eTorque system includes a powerful electric motor-generator that delivers 130 lb-ft of torque for smoother, faster starts and improved fuel economy.
The eTorque equipment increases the EPA-estimated fuel combined city/highway economy for a Hemi-powered rear-drive Ram by 2 mpg, to 19 mpg.
EPA ratings for the V6 Ram eTorque have not yet been released, but Ram expects eTorque to boost city fuel economy 3 mpg.
As a stop start system, when the driver begins to lift off the brake, the electric motor, powered by a 48-volt battery hidden in the pickup cab’s rear wall, starts the engine.
The eTorque technology also recaptures energy from braking and delivers carefully timed boosts for smoother shifts of the eight-speed automatic transmission.
