ASEAN Vehicle Sales and Production Update (Q2 2026)

Sales trending upward despite economic and holiday-driven demand shifts; Chinese EVs gain share through incentives

Sales volumes in the six major ASEAN countries generally increased y/y in the second quarter of 2026 (April-June). Indonesia recorded a 33% increase and Thailand a 10% increase, while sales in the Philippines declined 14%. Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore also posted y/y increases. Although economic conditions, including inflationary pressures and currency depreciation, as well as the impact of public holidays, varied by country, the growing adoption of electrified vehicles, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid vehicles (HEVs), is driving market growth. Affordable EV models from Chinese automakers have been launched one after another, particularly in Thailand and Indonesia, bringing changes to the traditionally Japanese-dominated market structure.

Supply chain: Cadillac Escalade (USA)

The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size SUV available with seven or eight seats. The Escalade is pursuing a dual-track strategy. While the traditional ICE model continues to dominate sales volume in the luxury SUV space, GM is aggressively laying the groundwork for its electrified future with the rollout of the Escalade IQ. The Escalade is currently in its fifth generation introduced in 2020. The Escalade IQ was added to the lineup as a 2025 model-year vehicle. As for the ICE model, a full model change is scheduled for June 2029, transitioning the model to the next-generation T1-2 platform. Production of the ICE Escalade is carried out at GM's Arlington Assembly Plant in Texas, with production scheduled to be transferred to the Orion Assembly plant in Michigan in early 2027. In the U.S. market, average monthly sales of the ICE Escalade during January-June 2026 were approximately 3.3 thousand units. By comparison, Escalade IQ recorded average monthly sales of approximately 0.5 thousand units. For the high-volume ICE Escalade, GM relies heavily on established suppliers capable of managing large-scale regional supply chains across North America (encompassing the U.S., Canada, and Mexico). These suppliers specialize in heavy-duty mechanical parts, highly reliable structural fasteners, transfer cases, and other conventional chassis components required for the vehicle's body-on-frame architecture.
