-The Company consists of five businesses, which are: Lifestyle, Automotive, Connect, Industry, and Energy. It also is engaged in other business activities as well. The Company’s product range covers almost every item of electrical machinery and equipment imaginable. 

-The Company will remove its automotive business (Panasonic Automotive Systems (PAS)) as a consolidated subsidiary from its books, after it sells all of PAS’ shares on December 2, 2024. After the removal, PAS' shareholders will be the US investment fund Apollo Group that will hold 80%; and Panasonic Holdings that will hold 20%.

-The Mobility Energy Division of Panasonic Energy develops, manufactures, and sells automotive cylindrical lithium-ion batteries.

-Panasonic Automotive Systems develops, manufactures, and sells automotive cockpit systems, ADASs and devices for them, on-board chargers, and systems and devices for xEVs.

History of formerly Energy Company (Formerly Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.)

1950 Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. was established in Umemachi, Moriguchi City.
1959 Tokyo Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. was established in Oura-gun, Gunma Prefecture.
1975 Company developed world's first lithium batteries (manganese dioxide lithium batteries), mass-producing them beginning in 1978.
1986 Sanyo Electric and Tokyo Sanyo Electric merged.
1990 Sale of nickel hydride batteries called the TWICELL commenced.
1994 Mass-production of cylindrical lithium-ion batteries commenced.
1999 Company developed nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries for hybrid electric vehicles.
2001 Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery business acquired from Toshiba Group.
2004 Began mass-production of nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery systems for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
Tokushima Plant went online in order to increase production of lithium-ion batteries.
2005 Company released next-generation nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery called the eneloop.
2008 Signed agreement with German automaker Volkswagen Group to co-develop next-generation lithium-ion HEV battery systems.
Formed a business alliance, which also included financial ties, with Panasonic Corp.
Dec., 2009 Panasonic Corporation acquired 50.27% of the voting stock of Sanyo Electric Co to make it a consolidated subsidiary.
2012 Consolidated the operations of Panasonic Energy with those of Sanyo Energy, forming "Energy Company".

Jun. 2014 Transferred semiconductor business of Panasonic to Panasonic Semiconductor Solutions Co., Ltd. in the company split.
Jul. 2014 Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display Co., Ltd. transferred from AVC Networks Company.
Panasonic CycleTech Co., Ltd. transferred to Appliances Company.
Apr. 2015 Motor Business Unit (formerly Motor Division) transferred from Appliances Company.

Apr. 2022 Established Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. as new company in the automotive business, as a result of the Panasonic Group’s migrating to a holding company.
Dec. 2024 Transferred all of the shares in its Automotive Systems to Star Japan Holdings.

 

History of Panasonic Energy

Oct. 2021 Established the Energy Company as a company based on the energy business of Industrial Solutions Company, the energy business of Tesla Energy in the USA, and Energy Company based on the energy technology department under the umbrella of the headquarters.
Apr. 2022 Adopted the name Panasonic Energy Co., Ltd. in line with the spin off.
