Valeo Group (China) Business Report FY ended Dec. 2020

Exhibition Information

-Valeo is presenting six different solutions at the Shanghai Motor Show. The company presented a new type of heat pump that obtains two-thirds of its energy needs from the outside air, eliminating the need to use energy from the internal battery and using natural refrigerants. EVs equipped with this device can extend their cruising range by 30% compared to conventional EVs in an environment of minus 15 degrees Celsius. In 2021, major European car manufacturers will be the first in the world to use this heat pump technology and natural refrigerant HVAC options in their EVs. Valeo Siemens eAutomotive, a Chinese joint venture, has unveiled an end-to-end electric powertrain system with an electric motor, inverter and reduction gearbox, delivering 100 kW. Other exhibits included the Health Shield, which uses highly efficient filters to protect people from bacteria, allergens and viruses; a 360-degree lighting solution; and the Valeo Mobility Kit, which consists of an electronic control unit and sensors with algorithms. Resumption of operations

-Valeo announced that all 34 Valeo plants in China have gradually begun to resume production since February 10, 2020. In March, sales reached 60% of their 2019 level and should be back to normal in the coming months. Since mid-March, European plants have adapted their production to customer demand and have also gradually shut down production, except at sites that manufacture goods for export. In North America, plants have progressively shut down based on customer decisions to shut down production. In terms of cash flow, Valeo has negotiated EUR 1 billion in additional credit lines with its main banking partners, and thus currently has EUR 2.3 billion in undrawn credit lines. (From a press release on April 14, 2020)

New products

-Valeo announced that it is presenting its autonomous, electric delivery droid prototype, Valeo eDeliver4U at CES 2020. Valeo developed the technology in partnership with Meituan Dianping, China. At 2.80m long, 1.20m wide and 1.70m tall, the droid can deliver up to 17 meals per trip, autonomously negotiating dense and complex urban environments at about 12 km/h without generating any pollutant emissions. It has a range of around 100km. It is equipped with four Valeo SCALA laser scanners, a front camera, two fisheye cameras, two radar devices and six ultrasonic sensors, coupled with software and artificial intelligence. The electrified chassis features a Valeo 48V motor and a Valeo 48V inverter. (From a press release on January 5, 2020)
