Factors
1) Driveline div.
-It reflects Driveline's global footprint, new programme wins, a return to more normal vehicle segment demand pattens as government support schemes are progressively withdrawn and its strong position in European premium vehicles.
2) Powder Metallurgy div.
-Sales increased in all regions as automotive markets recovered and recent new business inws entered production.

Contract
-Driveline division continued its good performance of new business awarded. There were successes with propshaft, All wheel drive coupling, electronic differential locking and open differetntial product lines. Driveline's hybrid/electric drive products also won new contracts in North America, Japan and Europe.

In order to meet production demands from underlying growth in China, India and North America, major driveshaft capacity expansion is underway which will increase capacity in these markets by around 60% over the next four years.

Investments Outside UK

<China>
-The Company will break ground in April 2010 for a new plant in Changchun, Jilin Province - its 12th in China. The facility is scheduled to open in 2011 and will produce one million constant-velocity driveshafts per year for the Chinese market. Annual capacity at the Changchun site will be then boosted to three-million units. (From a press release on April 28, 2010)

-The Company will increase its annual production capacity of differentials at GKN Driveline Torque Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. to more than 600,000 later in 2010 and will launch power take-off units (PTU) for AWD vehicles in July 2010. GKN Driveline also announced the expansion plan of GKN's Shanghai Technical Center, where a new line of driveline systems are being designed for small cars built by domestic automakers for sale in China. <Turkey>
-The Company announced that it has started manufacturing sideshafts in Turkey. In order to reinforce its supplying and servicing capabilities for production facilities of Toyota, Honda and other European automakers in Turkey, it has invested more than seven million Turkish Lira (2.9 million pounds) to start manufacturing there. It plans to gradually increase the employees to 250 in order to establish operations to output two million sideshafts annually. The 3,000-m2 (building) plant is located at the 38,000-m2 site near Bursa, the center of the automotive industry in Turkey, where Renault and Fiat have their joint ventures.
