Steering Column & AT Shifter (Concept)

- Steering wheel can be moved towards the passenger seat to let the driver easily get in/out of the car - Driver can adjust the position of the steering wheel by applying force to the steering wheel, which activates a sensor and a motor to move the wheel to an optimum position - Smooth gear shifting with the tips of fingers

Evolution of AT Shifter

- Smaller shifter created space for attaching drink holders

Variable Energy Absorption System

- Experience-type demonstration for variable energy absorption system

New Standard Manual Recliner

- Compact, slim and lightweight unit with special focus placed on making it slimmer - Mass-production scheduled to start in 2015

Fast Automatic Retraction Seat (Concept)

- Use of lightweight aluminum frame increased seat-retracting speed

Tokyo Motor Show 2005

<Exhibit of technologies in R&D stage>
Steering column with variable energy absorbing mechanism [First in Japan]
-A pyro-actuator instantly activates variable energy absorbing mechanism in response to a degree of impact from a collision.
(The mechanism is being developed jointly with Daicel Chemical Industries and development is expected to be completed in the former half of 2006.)

Sliding shaft with no play and low sliding force [ First in Japan]
-A needle roller reduces sliding force.
-Play in rotation is controlled by preload of springs and a taper slider. (Development of this technology is expected to be completed in the former half of 2006.)

Fineblanking forming process technology [First in the world]
-Coining process is added in the lock plate fineblanking processing. Minimizing shear drop reinforces strength. (Development of this technology is expected to be completed in the former half of 2006. )

Push-button type continuous variable manual recliner [First in the world]
-Continuously variable adjustment is possible by a push-button operation.
-Lock-on and lock-off mechanism by use of high strength planetary gears has been made possible.
-Backlash from the seatback is absorbed.

Motor assisted A/T shifter [First in the world]
-The aluminum die-cast base bracket has reduced size and weight.
-Instantaneous connection of the O/D switch with the harness is made possible by one push of a knob.

Cable column with mechanical clutch system for SBW
-A cable type steering column can be used even during power failure as a backup for SBW (steering by wire).
-Safety at the time of a collision is increased by the shaft-free mechanism, which was  developed jointly with Koyo Seiko.

Rotary swaging forming process technology
-Molding patterns and processing conditions are established to make it easy for materials to flow in a longitudinal direction.
-Precision of bore spline of a steering column and a telescopic shaft has been improved.

Decoupling pulley for alternator
-An elastic device inserted between a pulley and a hub has a structure of absorbing variation in rotation.
-Changing hardness of an elastic device can adjust an absorption ratio of rotation variance. (Development is scheduled to be completed in the latter half of 2007.)

New seat slide rail
-Ball rolling mechanism makes  a smooth sliding of the seat possible. Space provided within the cross section increases allowance for designing.(Development is scheduled to be completed in the former half of 2006.)

Universal joint with no play
-An elastic piece absorbs  vertical play and reduces oscillating torque, as well. (Development is scheduled to be completed in the former half of 2006.)
