-The Company's SCR system, which is compliant with Euro 6 emissions regulations, has been used as standard equipment on the VW Passat, Touareg, and Sharan since 2009. The Company also started supplying the product to both the BMW 5-series and the Daimler M-class.
-Urea acts as a reducing agent in SCR systems. It is injected into the exhaust system as an aqueous solution. The heat in the exhaust pipe produces ammonia from the urea. The ammonia reacts with the nitrogen oxides in the SCR catalytic converter, converting them into nitrogen and water vapor. The better the urea mixes with the exhaust gas flow after injection, the more effectively nitrogen oxide is removed, which in turn increases the efficiency of the SCR catalytic converter. This effect is optimized by a special mixing element after injection. It ensures homogeneous distribution of the aqueous urea solution and due to the additional surfaces in the exhaust gas flow promotes evaporation of urea-water droplets.
-The new plate mixer is now in standard use as well. With its especially simple and cost-effective design, it also offers high functionality and good durability. After further development of the mixer, it can now be used with no problem in all standard spraying angles of urea nozzles. Mixing of urea with the exhaust gas flow has also been improved.
-Normally the SCR catalytic converter is located in the rear section of the exhaust system, where it does not reach working temperature until relatively late. The Fuel Processor can provide a solution to this problem in the future. The innovative component, scheduled to be ready for series production by the end of 2011, facilitates rapid activation of the SCR catalytic converter during a cold start, thus reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
