Forward-looking technology sharing session

-Aptiv held a forward-looking technology sharing session in Beijing, where the SVA (Smart Vehicle Architecture), the Wind River software system, a cockpit-driving-parking integration solution with a Chinese chip, an advanced driver assistance system, and a system-level vehicle electrification solution were exhibited.

The SVA provides necessary hardware and architectures for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Technologically characterized by decoupling of hardware and software, separation of I/O and computing devices, and “server transformation” of computing, it enables automakers to make choices based on self-owned vehicle development and supply chain systems, and to reduce the R&D complexity and the total manufacturing and operation costs. The Wind River software system, a complete edge-to-cloud platform, provides a software framework, a high-security real-time operating system, and a complete tool chain for the development and operation of SDVs. It not only ensures the continuous operation of all safety-critical applications, but also seamlessly integrates them into SDV architectures to boost the development of hybrid-critical systems and empower vehicles with higher intelligence and safety.

The cockpit-driving-parking integration solution, the first cross-domain convergence computing platform developed based on a single Chinese local high-performance system-level chip by the Aptiv Chinese team, covers the intelligent cockpit, intelligent assisted driving, and automated parking control domains. It simplifies the hardware and software designs of automotive electronic and electrical architectures and systems, saving R&D costs. (From an Aptiv press release dated April 24, 2024)

Strategic cooperation

-Horizon Robotics announced that it will conduct in-depth strategic cooperation with Aptiv and Wind River, an Aptiv subsidiary, for which it will empower Aptiv and Wind River with the capability of creating fully integrated software and hardware solutions for automakers based on the Journey series chips. Horizon Robotics will enable the Journey series chips to support multiple Wind River software products such as the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system, the Wind River Helix virtual platform, Wind River Linux, Wind River Studio, container architecture, and middleware. New projects

-Aptiv signed an agreement on a new connection system plant project with Wuhan City. Located in Junshan New City, Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), the project has an investment amount of CNY 2 billion and mainly focuses on products for New Energy Vehicles, such as high-voltage charging bases and high-voltage connectors. For this project, an independent legal entity company will be established and is expected to be commissioned in Q1 2025. (From a WEDZ press release dated November 16, 2023)

-Aptiv (China) Investment Co., Ltd. announced the opening of a connection system engineering center in Wuhan, China. The engineering center is dedicated to the development of automotive electronic software and high-speed & high-voltage connectors for automobiles. It is expected that the R&D team will be expanded to more than 100 people in the next one to two years. (From a press release dated March 1, 2023)

-Aptiv Electrical Centers (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (Aptiv Electrical Centers), an Aptiv subsidiary, officially started construction of the Phase IV Expansion Project at its plant in Anting Town, Jiading District, Shanghai. With a total investment of CNY 160 million and a total building area of 18,000 square meters, the Project plans to build new testing facilities, a garage and dining hall, and is expected to be put into operation in January 2024. Exhibitions

-At the CES 2024, Aptiv exhibited a cross-domain converged computing platform built by Aptiv's China R&D team based on local system-level high-performance chips, as well as a 7th-generation 4D millimeter-wave (mmWave) angle radar.

Covering the three control domains of intelligent cockpit, intelligent driver assistance, and automated parking, the cross-domain converged computing platform supports multiple functions such as multi-screen interaction, online video playback, navigation, voice assistant, lane line and traffic signal recognition, and parking position and obstacle perception. Designed based on a China-made 77GHz radar chip, the 4D mmWave corner radar adopts an air waveguide antenna for high angular resolution and accuracy in a wide field of view. The corner radar also supports a variety of interface types and an operating bandwidth mode of up to 4G. (From Aptiv press releases dated January 10 and 11, 2024)

-Aptiv announced that it will participate in the 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2023) to be held on April 18-27. The company will showcase software defined vehicles powered by the SVA (Smart Vehicle Architecture), next-generation ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) solutions, advanced driving and parking integrated solutions, next-generation high-performance smart cockpit platforms, as well as electrification technologies and solutions. Aptiv Suzhou Technical Center	Suzhou Industrial Zone	-It commits to develop active safety, intelligent connection and safety, and infotainment and user experience systems for next-generation automobile platforms. -One of Aptiv’s three Asia-Pacific R&D centers for the Advanced Safety and User Experience Division. It conducts engineering and R&D, and together with the Aptiv China R&D Center, develops products such as integrated smart cockpits, ADAS, Level 2+ automated driving systems, intelligent networks, and vehicle body controllers for the Chinese market. At the same time, the center is equipped with automotive component testing facilities, including electrical performance testing, high and low temperature test chambers, and EMC and camera performance testing. -In terms of product innovation, it worked with the Suzhou government and China Telecom to set up a 5G development lab for the purpose of exploring the future of intelligent and digital vehicles.
Aptiv Anting Technical Center	Jiading, Shanghai	-Designs electrical architectures for gasoline-fueled vehicles and New Energy Vehicles, specifically including electrical distribution systems, connectors, electrical centers, and high-pressure fuel distribution systems of gasoline-fueled vehicles. -Capable of designing, developing and testing a full set of electrical distribution systems. Its product portfolio covers high-speed data cables, connectors and electrical centers. It is also a global R&D center for AK series high-voltage connectors, high-voltage charging gun PCBA and Qi-based wireless charging.
