Cost analysis data for the e-Axle of Tata Motors' flagship BEV, the Nexon.ev, is now available.
Tata Motors is the dominant leader in the Indian EV market, holding a 70% share of the Indian BEV market in 2024.
The Nexon is one of Tata’s core models—a B-segment SUV available with four powertrains (gasoline, diesel, CNG, and BEV)—and total sales across all variants reached 160,000 units in 2024.
Setven has conducted a teardown and cost analysis of the e-Axle used in the BEV model.

Key Features
- Equipped with Tata’s proprietary EV architecture, “Ziptron.”
- The e-Axle is a 3-in-1 unit (motor + inverter + gearbox), with the versatility to be applied across multiple vehicle models.
- The motor is manufactured by Tata AutoComp Systems, the gearbox is supplied by Chongqing Qingshan Transmission Branch (a subsidiary of Changan Automobile Group), and the inverter is presumed to be made in China.
- Regenerative braking offers four selectable levels, adjustable via paddle shifters, enabling one-pedal driving.
- The motor is water-cooled.
