Teardown Analysis of Skywell ET5 (Skyworth EV6)

- A detailed explanation of the thorough cost reduction tactics implemented to achieve a low price. -

Overview

Skywell ET5 (also known as the Skyworth EV6) is a D-segment electric SUV developed by Skyworth Auto, an emerging Chinese automaker.
Munro & Associates purchased 2021 model with the Limited trim and conduct a teardown study, and create a benchmark report.
It was designed and developed to compete with premium electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai IONIQ 5, and is sold not only in China but also in markets like Mexico and the Middle East.
Despite offering modern EV features such as a 12.8-inch touchscreen, smart voice control, Level 2.5 driver assistance, and a 360-degree camera, the vehicle is priced from just 150,000 RMB, delivering both the functionality expected of a contemporary EV and excellent cost performance.
This price is over 100,000 RMB lower than that of its competitors—Tesla Model Y (260,000–310,000 RMB) and Hyundai IONIQ 5 (250,000–350,000 RMB).
To achieve this affordability, this vehicle incorporates extensive cost-saving approaches, such as reducing the number of components and minimizing the use of custom parts.
This report reveals how the Skywell ET5 successfully controls manufacturing costs.
