Spanish passenger car sales increase 28.8% in December, increase 7.1% for 2024
On January 2, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations in December 2024 were up 28.8% to 105,346 units over December 2023.
Full-year sales of 1,016,885 units in 2024 represent a 7.1% increase over 2023.
In 2024, Toyota sales increased 19.7% to 95,614 units, Volkswagen brand sales increased 4.8% to 66,905 units, SEAT increased 11.5% to 65,299 units, Hyundai increased 10.1% to 64,841 units and Renault increased 14.3% to 64,236 units.
The best-selling cars in 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Toyota Corolla, SEAT Ibiza, Hyundai Tucson and MG ZS.
Of all vehicles sold in 2024, gasoline vehicles had a 37.2% market share, diesel vehicles had a 9.5% share and other vehicles had a 53.3% share.
Private car sales in 2024 increased 8.9% to 456,933 units, business sales decreased 5.1% to 373,826 units and rental car sales increased 36.8% to 186,126 units.
ANFAC explained that "We ended 2024 overcoming the million-unit barrier. This was not reached since before the pandemic and had limited our market for the past four years. Good sales performance in the last quarter driven by the final sprint of company and rental purchases has allowed the year to close above one million. We are still on track to recover the volume of sales of 1.2 million units that Spain is to aspire to as the fourth European economy. To this end, it is necessary both to maintain plans to help purchase electrified vehicles and to continue to show support from the administrations that encourage the citizen to buy a new vehicle and if it is electrified, even better."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 6.4% in November
On December 2, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 83,339 units in November 2024 represented an increase of 6.4% over November 2023.
Passenger car sales of 911,503 units in the eleven months of the year represented a 5.1% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 13.0% to 7,668 units, Renault sales increased 65.1% to 6,654 units, Kia sales decreased 2.4% to 5,636 units, VW sales decreased 0.4% to 5,347 units and SEAT sales increased 17.6% to 5,204 units compared to November 2023.
The best-selling cars in November 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, SEAT Ibiza, Renault Captur, Toyota Corolla and Renault Clio.
Of all vehicles sold in November, gasoline vehicles had a 33.3% market share, diesel vehicles had a 7.6% share, and other vehicles had a 59.0% share.
Private car sales in November increased 1.6% to 41,429 units, business sales increased 4.5% to 34,150 units and rental car sales increased 59.8% to 7,760 units.
ANFAC explained that "The market is moving forward positively and closes a new month growing. In the last quarter, an upward streak has been chained, allowing us to be optimistic for a year-end of around a million units. We will have to wait for how it evolves in the last month of the year and if we overcome the million barrier that has not been reached since before the pandemic. We must therefore remind citizens that currently they still have funds in the MOVES plan and that they are valid until the end of this year to purchase electric or hybrid electric vehicles. A significant fact that we trust will help to augment a national market that improves from last year, but that remains far from the 1.2 million pace that an economy like Spain should aspire."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 7.2% in October
On November 4, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 83,472 units in October 2024 represented an increase of 7.2% over October 2023.
Passenger car sales of 828,162 units in the ten months of the year represented a 4.9% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 27.3% to 8,918 units, VW sales increased 39.7% to 6,170 units, Renault sales increased 38.4% to 5,985 units, Hyundai sales increased 6.2% to 5,600 units and Dacia sales decreased 1.6% to 4,775 units compared to October 2023.
The best-selling cars in October 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris Cross, MG ZS and Hyundai Tucson.
Of all vehicles sold in October, gasoline vehicles had a 33.2% market share, diesel vehicles had a 9.2% share, and other vehicles had a 57.6% share.
Private car sales in October increased 8.7% to 41,436 units, business sales increased 6.5% to 36,164 units and rental car sales increased 0.5% to 5,872 units.
ANFAC explained that "Although it is true that month has had two more working days, October closes again positive, which is a good thing news. If the market manages to close the year with this trend, we could end 2024 with about a million units. A barrier that Spain needs to overcome as soon as possible. Already not only for economic reasons for the country, but also for further progress on decarbonization and renovation of the Spanish car park. It is therefore necessary to remind the citizen that it currently has support for the purchase of an electric or hybrid electric vehicle which can be plugged into the end of the year up to 10,000 euros. A message that would take more strength if we counted with a public outreach campaign to raise public awareness of the benefits from a switch to a zero or low-emission vehicle."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 6.3% in September
On October 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 73,144 units in September 2024 represented an increase of 6.3% over September 2023.
Passenger car sales of 744,698 units in the nine months of the year represented a 4.7% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 17.2% to 6,735 units, Renault sales increased 47.3% to 5,434 units, VW sales increased 16.6% to 4,769 units, Hyundai sales increased 32.3% to 4,755 units and Kia sales decreased 9.7% to 4,168 units compared to September 2023.
The best-selling cars in September 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Tesla Model 3, Renault Clio, Toyota C-HR and Hyundai Tucson.
Of all vehicles sold in September, gasoline vehicles had a 32.1% market share, diesel vehicles had a 8.8% share, and other vehicles had a 59.1% share.
Private car sales in September increased 10.5% to 36,639 units, business sales decreased 1.1% to 31,732 units and rental car sales increased 34.4% to 4,773 units.
ANFAC explained that "It is very good news that the market will grow after the fall in sales in August. The general rise of 6% is very positive, especially by individuals growing above two digits, meaning that the citizen still wants to renew his old car for a new one. It is gratifying to see how citizens continue to have an interest in acquiring cleaner and increasingly connected and secure vehicles. The fact that the hybrid vehicle continues to gain market share results in the growing presence of sustainability in the purchase decision. It would be good for people to make the final leap to electromobility if there were a public outreach campaign in favor of the electric vehicle. A private and clean car is another alternative to mobility for those who do not have a public transport that offers the same service to move around in their daily activities."

Spanish passenger car sales decrease 6.5% in August
On September 2, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 52,322 units in August 2024 represented a decrease of 6.5% over August 2023.
Passenger car sales of 671,551 units in the eight months of the year represented a 4.5% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 4.5% to 5,595 units, Hyundai sales increased 2.4% to 3,779 units, Dacia sales increased 32.9% to 3,553 units, Kia sales decreased 11.1% to 3,522 units and VW sales decreased 11.9% to 3,115 units compared to August 2023.
The best-selling cars in August 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Yaris Cross, MG ZS and Toyota Corolla.
Of all vehicles sold in August, gasoline vehicles had a 34.5% market share, diesel vehicles had a 9.3% share, and other vehicles had a 56.2% share.
Private car sales in August increased 2.7% to 30,642 units, business sales decreased 14.2% to 19,690 units and rental car sales decreased 37.6% to 1,990 units.
ANFAC explained that "August closes the month in negative, which has not happened since March of this year. It is true that this is the month of excellence of the holiday and that it has never been a good month. What's worrying is the downward trend that the market has been dragging on in recent months, with sales stagnating to slow our progress of 2023. With this trend, if at the beginning of the year we were convinced to exceed, after five years, the million passenger cars sold, we are now closer to even below 980,000 units, which would represent a growth of 3.2 per cent over the previous year. The noise against the use of the private car remains very high, confusing the customer and paralysing their desire to buy a new, safer, cleaner and more profitable car than their old vehicle. It would be better and more effective to develop incentive policies for citizens and businesses to acquire or renew their cars and fleets for more sustainable and new ones, as the vehicle that emits most is the one that does not renew itself."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 3.4% in July
On August 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 83,979 units in July 2024 represented an increase of 3.4% over July 2023.
Passenger car sales of 619,224 units in the first seven months of the year represented a 5.6% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 13.5% to 8,323 units, Hyundai sales increased 33.2% to 6,494 units, VW sales decreased 2.9% to 5,973 units, Kia sales decreased 15.7% to 5,442 units and SEAT sales decreased 2.6% to 5,192 units compared to July 2023.
The best-selling cars in July 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, MG ZS, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota C-HR.
Of all vehicles sold in July, gasoline vehicles had a 35.9% market share, diesel vehicles had a 10.2% share, and other vehicles had a 54.0% share.
Private car sales in July increased 16.8% to 40,993 units, business sales decreased 10.1% to 31,599 units and rental car sales increased 3.9% to 11,387 units.
ANFAC explained that "July continues the upward trend in recent months, with a slight 3% growth, although we still remain 23% below pre-pandemic volumes. It should be noted that July is traditionally a month in which more than 100,000 enrolment is exceeded, a figure that we have not reached this month. Recovering pre-pandemic market figures is not only an economic issue, but also a further step towards the required emission reduction targets. The entry of new vehicles will help rejuvenate a park that is already 14.2 years old. The extension of MOVES until the end of the year is to serve as an important stimulus for buyers and to bring sustainable vehicles into line with the objectives set and required."

If we keep the positive news, we continue on the path to achieve on the road to achieve the long-awaited million new cars sold in a year. This has not happened since 2019.
If we are left with the negative one, we see that in June individuals and companies have slowed down their rate of purchase of new cars. On the electrified side, the extension of the MOVES until year-end to not stop sales of these types of vehicles in negative volume figures over the last two months compared to 2023. On the contrary, the conventional hybrid cars follow their upward path, indicating that citizens and companies want to buy more and more sustainable vehicles."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 3.4% in May
On June 3, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 95,158 units in May 2024 represented an increase of 3.4% over May 2023.
Passenger car sales of 431,884 units in the first five months of the year represented a 6.8% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 4.4% to 8,187 units, Hyundai sales increased 11.6% to 6,433 units, Peugeot sales decreased 6.6% to 6,249 units, VW sales decreased 4.6% to 6,240 units and Renault sales decreased 6.3% to 6,218 units compared to May 2023.
The best-selling cars in May 2024, in order of popularity, were the Citroen C3, Peugeot 2008, Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio and Hyundai Tucson.
Of all vehicles sold in May, gasoline vehicles had a 41.8% market share, diesel vehicles had a 10.3% share, and other vehicles had a 47.9% share.
Private car sales in May increased 2.5% to 37,421 units, business sales decreased 10.9% to 30,138 units and rental car sales increased 27.1% to 27,599 units.
ANFAC explained that "The passenger car market has slowed during the month of May. It grows, but only at 3.4%. If we keep the positive news, the year-to-date growth path continues at almost 7%. More worrying is the stagnation of sales of electric and hybrid electric cars which in May fell by 11.9%. Sales figures for such vehicles are below last year's and noise against the electric vehicle does not benefit sales. We in the industry are concerned that with this level of sales of zero-emission vehicles we will not meet the decarbonization targets. The industry is not stopping to launch models with a plug into the market, but we can't pull more out of the car alone. More involvement and speed from the administration would be needed to help citizens opt for new technologies."

On May 2, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 92,000 units in April 2024 represented an increase of 23.1% over April 2023.
Passenger car sales of 336,726 units in the first four months of the year represented a 7.8% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 60.2% to 8,864 units, SEAT sales increased 24.1% to 6,842 units, VW sales increased 6.8% to 6,785 units, Hyundai sales increased 47.7% to 5,854 units and Renault sales increased 25.6% to 5,690 units compared to April 2023.
The best-selling cars in April 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, SEAT Ibiza, Renault Clio, SEAT Arona and Citroen C3.
Of all vehicles sold in April, gasoline vehicles had a 43.7% market share, diesel vehicles had a 9.8% share, and other vehicles had a 46.5% share.
Private car sales in April increased 32.3% to 37,548 units, business sales decreased 4.6% to 29,215 units and rental car sales increased 60.2% to 25,237 units.
ANFAC explained that "If we eliminate the Easter effect by adding up sales in March and April, the market goes up by 7.2%. It's a positive fact. But, although customers have decided to continue buying more cars during these four months than in the same period last year, sales of plug-in vehicles do not grow in quota, and we are even below what was achieved in 2023. If we look at the data for the first quarter, we grow by about 8 percent, which keeps us in the foresight of trying to overcome the million passenger cars sold in 2024. If we want to rejuvenate the park that is more than 14 years old and sell more low- and zero-emission vehicles, we need to overcome that bar to try to hit the target of 1.2 million annual sales again."

On April 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 94,840 units in March 2024 represented a decrease of 4.7% over March 2023.
Passenger car sales of 244,879 units in the first three months of the year represented a 3.1% increase from the same period in 2023.
Toyota sales increased 15.6% to 9,343 units, Kia sales increased 6.1% to 7,269 units, VW sales decreased 6.6% to 5,822 units, SEAT sales decreased 24.2% to 5,753 units and Peugeot sales decreased 28.5% to 5,729 units compared to March 2023.
The best-selling cars in March 2024, in order of popularity, were the Nissan Qashqai, Dacia Sandero, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla and Hyndai Tucson.
Of all vehicles sold in March, gasoline vehicles had a 42.6% market share, diesel vehicles had a 9.1% share, and other vehicles had a 48.3% share.
Private car sales in March decreased 3.9% to 34,668 units, business sales decreased 27.3% to 28,272 units and rental car sales increased 29.7% to 31,900 units.
ANFAC explained that "This month of March, it recorded the first negative market since December 2022. While it is true that Easter this year falls in March, unlike last year, which was in April, and we have two less working days. We will have to wait until April to see whether we continue on the upward path or not; we are concerned about the decline of more than 27% of corporate purchases, given that these are an indicator of how the economy goes. But we are more concerned about sales of electrified vehicles. Adding power and plug-in hybrids in March, the quota was 10.3%. We are still far from achieving the targets for decarbonization in both sales of these vehicles and recharge facilities."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 9.9% in February
On March 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 81,348 units in February 2024 represented an increase of 9.9% over February 2023.
Passenger car sales of 150,033 units in the first two months of the year represented a 8.7% increase from the same period in 2023.
Peugeot sales increased 7.1% to 6,151 units, Toyota sales increased 0.8% to 6,085 units, VW sales increased 8,7% to 5,279 units, Renault sales increased 17.0% to 5,201 units and SEAT sales decreased 13.8% to 5,196 units compared to February 2023.
The best-selling cars in February 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Nissan Qashqai, SEAT Arona, Peugeot 2008 and Toyota Corolla.
Of all vehicles sold in February, gasoline vehicles had a 40.1% market share, diesel vehicles had a 10.2% share, and other vehicles had a 49.7% share.
Private car sales in February increased 7.2% to 34,787 units, business sales decreased 10.9% to 28,546 units and rental car sales increased 89.7% to 18,015 units.
ANFAC explained that "February continues on the path we started in January, a fact that has been favoured by having one more market day per leap year. This February has also been a turn for rent companies to take over, as they have made purchases to meet the demand of tourists during Easter, which is celebrated later this month. Our goal remains to exceed one million cars sold this year, a figure that has not been achieved since 2019. This low sales volume has led to the average age of passenger cars in Spain in 2023, which continues to grow to reach 14.2 years. We need to recover vehicle sales volumes to lower that average age, while increasing the market share of low and zero-emission vehicles, which account for only 5.7% of the entire operating park."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 7.3% in January
On February 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 68,685 units in January 2024 represented an increase of 7.3% over January 2023.
Toyota sales increased 14.8% to 7,615 units, SEAT sales increased 14.7% to 5,073 units, Kia sales decreased 2.2% to 4,594 units, Hyndai sales increased 19.0% to 4,121 units and Peugeot sales decreased 4.2% to 3,881 units compared to January 2023.
The best-selling cars in January 2024, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Toyota Corolla, MG ZS, SEAT Leon and Toyota Yaris Cross.
Of all vehicles sold in January, gasoline vehicles had a 34.9% market share, diesel vehicles had a 11.0% share, and other vehicles had a 54.1% share.
Private car sales in January increased 6.3% to 34,037 units, business sales decreased 1.6% to 27,410 units and rental car sales increased 74.6% to 7,238 units.
ANFAC explained that "We started 2024 with a positive data. The market grows by 7.3 per cent, and it shakes by 69,000 units. Considering that in January 2023, much of the orders that were placed in November and December 2022 and delayed deliveries due to lack of vehicle trucks were registered, last January has yielded good data. Admittedly, we are still far from the 2020 figures, but starting the year up gives us optimism. We should realize how resilient the automobile sector is to adapt to all kinds of endogenous and exogenous shocks nonstop. We are now struck by the delays caused by terrorist attacks on the Red Sea that force cargo ships to surround Africa to reach Europe and by the severe drought that can affect not only people's routine but the production of all kinds of goods. We will see how February behaves, but with this figure and, with all the caution of being January, we could be close to one million new cars by 2024."
