Japan, February, sales volume declines 3.5%, sales of light vehicles increased while registered vehicles decreased for the second consecutive month due to sluggish performance by all companies
According to the Japan Automotive Dealers Association and Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association, sales in Japan in February 2026 decreased 3.5% to 394,965 units.
Sales with engine displacements above 660cc decreased 7.3% to 243,670 units. Vehicles with engine displacements below 660cc increased 3.2% to 151,295 units.
Total sales from January to February decreased 2.9% to 762,717 units.

Japanese new vehicle sales in January decreased 2.3% y/y to 367.7K units, Amidst overall sluggish registered vehicle sales (-4.2%), Suzuki and Lexus posted double-digit growth, while mini vehicles performed well (+1.1%) with Daihatsu achieving double-digit growth
According to the Japan Automotive Dealers Association and Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association, sales in Japan in January 2026 decreased 2.3% to 367,748 units.
Sales with engine displacements above 660cc decreased 4.2% to 228,832 units. Vehicles with engine displacements below 660cc increased 1.1% to 138,916 units.
