Malaysian new car sales decrease by 1.1%, and production increases by 2.8% in February
On March 18, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 62,833 units in February decreased by 1.1% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were up 2.7% to 57,979 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were down 31.9% to 4,854 units.
New car sales for the first two months of 2024 increased 12.8% from the same period in 2023 to 128,332 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for February increases 2.8% over the previous year to 65,611 units.
New car production for the first two months of 2024 increased 15.8% from the same period in 2023 to 141,688 units.
Sales in March 2024 is expected to be higher than February 2024 due to companies rushing to fulfill for deliveries before their financial year ending on 31 March 2024, as well as promotional campaigns for the Hari Raya festive season.

Malaysian new car sales increase by 30.6%, and production increases by 30.0% in January
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 65,499 units in January increased by 30.6% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were up 33.2% to 59,394 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were up 9.4% to 6,105 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for January increases 30.0% over the previous year to 76,077 units.
As of the end of January, Malaysia's new motor vehicle sales are expected to decline by 7.5% to 740,000 units in 2024, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), following record sales of 799,731 units in 2023.
For 2024, MAA's weaker forecast is due to several factors, including global economic uncertainty due to conflicts and geopolitical tensions, and a slight slowdown in global economic growth forecasted by the International Monetary Fund to 2.9% in 2024 from 3% in 2023.
