Malaysian new car sales decrease by 14.9%, and production decreases by 19.9% in September
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 58,032 units in September decreased by 14.9% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were down 14.0% to 52,922 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were down 22.9% to 5,110 units.
Paul Tan reported on October 16, 2024, according to the association, the decrease in numbers last month stemmed from a shorter working month and was also due to consumers adopting a wait-and-see attitude pending the Budget 2025 announcement this month.
New car sales for the first nine months of 2024 increased 3.9% from the same period in 2023 to 594,037 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for September decreased 19.9% over the previous year to 55,383 units.
New car production for the first nine months of 2024 increased 4.7% from the same period in 2023 to 593,050 units.

Malaysian new car sales decrease by 2.3%, and production increases by 8.9% in August
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 71,162 units in August decreased by 2.3% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were down 0.1% to 65,637 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were down 22.6% to 5,525 units.
New car sales for the first eight months of 2024 increased 5.9% from the same period in 2023 to 533,301 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for August increased 8.9% over the previous year to 73,966 units.
New car production for the first eight months of 2024 increased 7.8% from the same period in 2023 to 536,313 units.
As of August 16, MAA estimates that new vehicle sales for 2024 will be 765,000 units.

Malaysian new car sales increase by 10.7%, and production increases by 5.1% in July
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 71,730 units in July increased by 10.7% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were up 11.4% to 65,781 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were up 3.2% to 5,949 units.
New car sales for the first seven months of 2024 increased 7.2% from the same period in 2023 to 462,088 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for July increases 5.1% over the previous year to 70,295 units.
New car production for the first seven months of 2024 increased 7.7% from the same period in 2023 to 462,347 units.
Last month, MAA revised its original annual sales forecast from 740,000 units to 765,000, changing from a projected decrease of 7.5% to a projected decrease of 4.3% compared to last year. This revision was influenced by several positive factors, including the government's forecast of Malaysia's GDP expanding in the range of 4% to 5%, Bank Negara's decision to maintain the OPR at 3% at its recent Monetary Policy Committee
meeting, a healthy backlog of orders (particularly in the A segment passenger car market), the introduction of new players and models, and MAA members' continued aggressive promotional strategies.

Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 57,991 units in April increased by 21.3% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were up 25.0% to 53,253 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were down 9.1% to 4,738 units.

Malaysian new car sales decrease by 9.9%, and production decrease by 12.0% in March
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 71,052 units in March decreased by 9.9% over the same month in 2023 but a 13.1% increase from the previous month.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were down 8.7% to 64,760 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were down 20.8% to 6,292 units.
MAA had expected at the end of March, sales in March to surpass those in February, driven by the end of year sales season and promotional campaigns during the Hari Raya festive season.
New car sales for the first three months of 2024 increased 5.0% from the same period in 2023 to 202,245 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for March decreases 12.0% over the previous year to 66,923 units.
New car production for the first three months of 2024 increased 6.1% from the same period in 2023 to 210,431 units.

On March 18, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 62,833 units in February decreased by 1.1% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were up 2.7% to 57,979 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were down 31.9% to 4,854 units.
New car sales for the first two months of 2024 increased 12.8% from the same period in 2023 to 128,332 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for February increases 2.8% over the previous year to 65,611 units.
New car production for the first two months of 2024 increased 15.8% from the same period in 2023 to 141,688 units.
Sales in March 2024 is expected to be higher than February 2024 due to companies rushing to fulfill for deliveries before their financial year ending on 31 March 2024, as well as promotional campaigns for the Hari Raya festive season.

Malaysian new car sales increase by 30.6%, and production increases by 30.0% in January
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 65,499 units in January increased by 30.6% over the same month in 2023.
PV (passenger vehicles) sales were up 33.2% to 59,394 units. CV (commercial vehicles) sales were up 9.4% to 6,105 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for January increases 30.0% over the previous year to 76,077 units.
As of the end of January, Malaysia's new motor vehicle sales are expected to decline by 7.5% to 740,000 units in 2024, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), following record sales of 799,731 units in 2023.
For 2024, MAA's weaker forecast is due to several factors, including global economic uncertainty due to conflicts and geopolitical tensions, and a slight slowdown in global economic growth forecasted by the International Monetary Fund to 2.9% in 2024 from 3% in 2023.
