13th Schaeffler Automotive Symposium
Beyond Driving: Schaeffler’s vision and strategy for future mobility
Summary
The 13th Schaeffler Automotive Symposium is a recurring event held every four years since 1978. It represents the company’s largest customer-facing platform for presenting innovations and key technologies in the automotive industry.
The Media Day, hosted at the brand-new Schaeffler Project and Technology Center in Bühl, inaugurated in 2025, welcomed journalists both onsite and via livestream and featured a comprehensive program including a press conference, a guided exhibition tour, a plant visit, and test drives.
The event was opened by Schaeffler Group CEO Klaus Rosenfeld, together with Matthias Zink (CEO Powertrain & Chassis) and Thomas Stierle (CEO E-Mobility). Under the guiding motto “Beyond Driving”, the symposium highlighted Schaeffler’s ambition to actively shape the future of mobility through technological innovation and system-level solutions.
Transforming into a Motion Technology Company
A central theme of the press conference was Schaeffler’s strategic transformation into a leading “Motion Technology Company”. This transformation is driven by global trends such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, and geopolitical as well as economic developments.
A key milestone in this process was the acquisition of Vitesco Technologies, announced in 2023, which significantly strengthened Schaeffler’s capabilities in electronics and sensor technology and complements its traditional expertise in mechanics and mechatronics. As a result, the company now offers a highly integrated and competitive portfolio across multiple domains.
While expanding into new growth areas such as humanoid robotics, electric aviation, and defense-related applications, Mr. Rosenfeld emphasized that the automotive sector remains a core pillar of its business and technological foundation. Innovation continues to play a central role, with the company positioning itself as a key contributor to ongoing developments in the European and global mobility landscape.
