Electrification in Indonesia
From the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Show
Summary
There is currently no significant movement in Indonesia to switch from BEVs (battery electric vehicles) to HEVs (hybrid electric vehicles). BEV prices are approaching those of ICE (internal combustion engine) powered vehicles. Because HEVs are expensive and require higher maintenance costs, BEVs are considered more advantageous.
At the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Show (April 29 to May 4, 2025, Jakarta International Expo, Periklindo (the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association)), Southeast Asia's only show specializing in electric vehicles, Chinese manufacturer Wuling and state-owned Indonesian EV manufacturer MABI (PT Mobil Anak Bangsa Indonesia) announced their commercial vehicle BEV lineups.
The Periklindo Electric Vehicle Show, now in its third year, was a diverse exhibition co-hosted by Asiabike Jakarta (ABJ). The total number of exhibitors was 143, including 14 finished vehicle manufacturers, as well as motorcycle, tricycle, and accessory parts manufacturers. According to the Vice President of Public Relations and Education of Periklindo (Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association), the event organizer, the number of visitors exceeded that of the previous year. As of May 3, the organization had achieved IDR 910 billion, well above its target of IDR 400 billion.
