  At the 4th Automotive World [Autumn] Advanced Automotive Technology Expo (organized by RX Japan K.K.) held at Makuhari Messe convention center near Tokyo on September 4-6, 2024, keynote speeches and SDV (Software Defined Vehicle)-related presentations were given by representatives of Sony Honda Mobility, Denso, Nagoya University, Panasonic Automotive Systems, Bosch, and ASAM.

 

Summary of SDV-related exhibits and presentations

Sony Honda Mobility Inc. Background of Sony Honda Mobility's establishment and presentation of AFEELA. As part of its efforts to advance the evolution of mobility, the company will leverage the strengths of AI and gaming technologies to create new value in mobility through an open ecosystem.
Denso Corporation With an eye on the social environment and mobility in 2035, the company is working to improve the efficiency of software development by automating software design and data-driven development to address the challenges posed by large-scale integrated ECUs. The company is also promoting the development of a knowledge utilization platform that uses AI.
Nagoya University The definition of SDV, expectations for SDV and the challenges to realizing it, changes in the marketability of automobiles brought about by the openness of SDV, and Nagoya University's efforts toward open SDV (Open SDV Initiative) are introduced.
Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. The essence of the SDV change, what "Software First", a radical innovation of driving factors and development methods, aims to achieve, and the activities of AGL (Automotive Grade Linux), the key to this change, will be explained.
Bosch Corporation Bosch's approach to API standardization for open function development and more efficient implementation of in-vehicle application software in the SDV era will be presented.
ASAM Japan (Association for Standardization of Automation and Measurement Systems) ASAM promotes standardization activities, focusing on non-competitive areas of the automotive industry, including standards for measurement, calibration, simulation, and test automation. This presentation provides an overview of ASAM, activities related to SDV, and the standardization process.

 

SDV-related technologies

  The E/E architecture of SDVs is shifting to a form centered on HPC (High Performance Computing), where software is separated from hardware and developed in its own virtual environment, creating an environment that allows third-parties outside the automotive industry to enter this software and applications market. There is active discussion ongoing about standardization of APIs (Application Programming Interface) that serve as an interface to third-party software, and the success or failure of ever-evolving vehicles, SDVs, will depend on this.
