Wuling "Hong Guang MINI EV", a low-cost EV priced at approximately USD 4,000

TECHNO-FRONTIER 2021: Electrical components of the best-selling EV in the Chinese market

2021/07/14

Summary

At TECHNO-FRONTIER 2021 (held June 23-25, 2021, at Tokyo Big Sight, Aomi Exhibition Hall, hosted by Japan Management Association), the "Hong Guang MINI EV" made by Wuling, which has become a hot topic in China, was on display. With a phenomenally low selling price of about JPY 450,000 (approximately USD 4,000), it is the best-selling EV (electric vehicle) in the Chinese market, ahead of Tesla's EV models.

The model on display was imported from Shanghai by the organizer of TECHNO-FRONTIER, the Japan Management Association, for the planned exhibition, and because there is no plan to sell it in Japan, there were no explanatory materials from the manufacturer. In addition, the vehicle on display was not drivable because the battery was removed for transportation, so the attendees could not see a display of the electrical components. After the exhibition, it was planned to provide the vehicle to a university for research purposes, as it cannot be driven on public roads in Japan even if it is equipped with batteries.
