LMC Automotive Global Light Vehicle Sales Update (April 2020)

Summary

  • Global Light Vehicle (LV) sales suffered another sharp fall in April, dropping by 45% year-on-year (YoY), with the selling rate reaching 49 mn units/year. This is even weaker than the March result, which was already reaching levels not seen since the financial crisis, and is indicative of the serious impact of coronavirus across the globe.
  • Despite recovery in China and Korea, the former seeing flat YoY sales in April, most other markets have not been so fortunate, with regional YoY losses of up to 80%. Further significant headwinds are expected in coming months, as measures to curtail the virus continue.
