Indian Government updates about promotion of electric vehicles

On March 3, the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries announced that under Phase-II of  the FAME India scheme, about 14,160 electric vehicles have been supported through February 26, 2020, by way of demand incentives amounting to about INR 500 million.
5,595 electric buses have also been sanctioned to various state and city transport undertakings under Phase-II of the scheme. This involves government incentives of around INR 28 billion.
DHI has also sanctioned 2,636 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations amounting to INR 5 billion in 62 cities of India.
Under the new GST regime, GST on EVs has been reduced from 12% rate to 5%. The Ministry of Power has allowed sale of electricity as ‘service’ for charging of electric vehicles.
The government has also granted exemption to the battery operated transport vehicles and transport vehicles running on ethanol and methanol fuels from the requirements of permit.
