VW debuts new PHEVs in China

On December 11, VW (China) debuted the PHEV version of the next-generation Touareg, FAW VW’s Magotan GTE Concept, and the Tayron GTE Concept. This further added to the PHEV version of SAIC VW’s Tiguan L, PHEV version of the Passat, and the imported VW Variant GTE wagon that are currently on sale. Unveiling of the new PHEV models marks the start of VW’s first phase of its electrified mobility strategy for China.
With the localization of the EV versions of a number of popular models in 2019, VW will start the second phase of its electrified mobility strategy. The automaker will have about ten NEVs and produce 300,000 units of NEVs in China by 2020. It plans to start the last phase of the strategy after 2020 or 2021 and launch new EVs based on VW’s MEB (Modular Electric Toolkit) EV platform.
The PHEV version of the next-generation Touareg is powered by a 2.0L TSI engine and a motor that has an output of 100 kW. The system power of the vehicle has an output of 270 kW (or 367 hp) and has up to 700 Nm of torque. The PHEV can accelerate from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. It features a power battery that has a capacity of 18 kWh and has an EV range of about 60 km. The automaker will launch the vehicle in China a year from now.
In addition, the company will launched the FAW VW Magotan GTE Concept and the Tayron GTE Concept in China in 2019.
