Brazilian vehicle sales up 24.5% in September, production up 39.1%
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in September increased 24.5% year-over-year (y/y) to 199,211 units.
Among by maker sales of passenger vehicles, General Motors saw an increase of 29.3% to 30,988 units. Fiat Chrysler’s sales increased 28.2% to 22,708 units. Renault’s sales increased 94.0% to 19,608 units. For light commercial vehicles, FCA’s sales increased 9.9% to 9,747 units, VW’s sales increased 45.4% to 4,291 units. GM's sales decreased 0.6% to 4,263 units.
The Federacao Nacional da Distribuicao de Veiculos Automotores announced passenger vehicle sales rankings by model for the month. The GM Onix took the top spot with sales of 17,236 units. The Renault Kwid was number 2 with 10,358 units, followed by the Ford KA with 8,727 units. For LCVs, the Fiat Strada took the top spot with sales of 4,621 units, followed by the Fiat Toro with 3,918 units, and the VW Saveiro was number 3 with 3,292 units.
In ANFAVEA’s sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible-fuel vehicles increased 28.7% y/y to 173,628 units (market share of 89.6%), diesel vehicles were up 7.6% from a year ago with 13,729 units (market share of 7.1%), gasoline vehicles decreased 16.6% to 6,065 units (market share of 3.1%), and hybrid and electric vehicles jumped 386.1% to 384 units.
As for September production figures (excluding CKD production), units produced increased 39.1% to 236,944 units. Exports in September increased 52.2% to 60,049 units.
