German car sales fall 3.3% in September

On October 5, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 288,035 new passenger car registrations in September, an 3.3% decrease from the same month last year.
Year-to-date registrations of 2,611,821 vehicles in the first nine months of the year represented an increase of 2.2% from the same period in 2016.
Volkswagen brand sales of 53,268 units (18.5% market share) decreased 8.2% in September compared to the same month in 2016.
Mercedes sales of 28,139 units (9.8% share) decreased 2.0% from last year.
BMW sales of 24,812 units (8.6% share) increased 3.6% in September.
Opel sales of 21,764 units (7.6% share) decreased 0.3% from last year.
Audi sales of 20,614 units (7.2% share) decreased 8.6% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 19,484 units (6.8% share) increased 11.6% in September.
Sales of 25,511 trucks in September represented a increase of 7.9% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 431 buses represented an increase of 2.6%.
In September, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 59.7% market share, diesel vehicles had a 36.3% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 410,100 units had increased 1% and domestic production of 522,780 units had decreased 1% from last September.
