On October 2, the Italian automobile manufacturers association (ANFIA) announced that passenger car registrations of 166,956 units in September increased 8.1% from the same month last year.
For the first nine months of 2017, passenger car registrations of 1,533,710 units increased 9.0% over the same period in 2016.
Domestic brand sales increased 5.0% in September with a 28.3% market share, while foreign manufacturer sales increased 9.4% with a 71.7% market share.
In September, Fiat brand registrations increased 2.7% (19.7% market share), Volkswagen brand registrations increased 7.1% (8.3% share), Renault registrations increased 24.9% (6.6% share), Ford registrations decreased 1.0% (6.0% share), Peugeot registrations increased 12.2% (5.0% share), and Opel registrations increased 0.9% (5.0% share) from a year ago.
The best-selling cars in September, in order of popularity, were the Fiat Panda, Fiat Tipo, Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500, and VW Golf.
The foreign car distributors association (UNRAE) announced that diesel passenger car sales in September increased 8.5% (57.8% share), gasoline-powered car sales increased 2.4% (30.8% share), hybrid car (HV) sales increased 48.7% (3.5% share), and electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 25.0% (0.1% share).
Private car sales in September decreased 3.9% to 89,798 units (53.3% share), fleet sales increased 26.8% to 33,618 units (19.9% share), and business sales increased 24.3% to 45,115 units (26.8% share).
