Italian car sales rise 5.9% in July
On August 1, the Italian automobile manufacturers association (ANFIA) announced that passenger car registrations of 145,363 units in July increased 5.9% from the same month last year.
For the first seven months of 2017, passenger car registrations of 1,282,353 units increased 8.6% over the same period in 2016.
Domestic brand sales increased 3.6% in July with a 28.2% market share, while foreign manufacturer sales increased 6.9% with a 71.8% market share.
In July, Fiat brand registrations increased 0.2% (20.2% market share), Ford registrations increased 8.4% (7.0% share), Volkswagen brand registrations decreased 3.9% (6.5% share), Peugeot registrations increased 31.2% (5.8% share), Renault registrations decreased 8.7% (5.5% share), and Opel registrations increased 9.8% (5.2% share) from a year ago.
The best-selling cars in July, in order of popularity, were the Fiat Panda, Fiat 500, Fiat Punto, Lancia Ypsilon, and Fiat Tipo.
The foreign car distributors association (UNRAE) announced that diesel passenger car sales in July increased 0.2% (56.0% share), gasoline-powered car sales increased 5.7% (31.1% share), hybrid car (HV) sales increased 95.1% (3.6% share), and electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 100.0% (0.1% share).
Private car sales in July decreased 1.8% to 85,705 units (58.5% share), fleet sales increased 8.7% to 23,880 units (16.3% share), and business sales increased 25.7% to 36,978 units (25.2% share).
