The 124,990 new cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) sold in Russia in May 2017 represented a increase of 14.7% compared to the same month in 2016 according to the Association of European Business (AEB) Automobile Manufacturers Committee on June 8.
The 577,449 new cars and LCVs sold in the first five months of 2017 represented an increase of 5.1% over the same period in 2016.
Among the four largest OEM retailers in Russia in May 2017, AvtoVAZ sales were up 21.6% to 25,051 units, Kia sales were up 26.0% to 15,121 units, Hyundai was up 12.8% to 11,955 units and Renault was up 22.0% to 10,917 units.
The 3 bestselling models sold in May were the Kia Rio, Lada Granta and Lada Vesta.
Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee said, “The Russian car market demonstrates a solid year-on-year gain in May - for the third month in a row, and at a two-digit pace for the first time in many years. Noteworthy is also the fact that the positive sales trend is carried by a majority of market players. In our view this important enabler for the recovery process gaining further momentum and, most importantly, turning into a lasting trend.”
