April sales in China: all four Japanese OEMs achieve y/y increases
By May 16, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda announced their sales results in China for April 2017. Sales at all four companies increased year-over-year (y/y), with Honda and Mazda achieving double-digit increases. Honda topped the April sales ranking among Japanese automakers.
Nissan announced that it sold 105,324 vehicles in China, which was a 9.5% rise y/y.The company’s year-to-date (YTD) sales from January reached 419,671 vehicles, up 6.3% y/y.
Toyota sold approximately 108,300 vehicles, a 7.2% increase y/y. The automaker enjoyed strong sales of models including the Levin HEV and Camry HEV from GAC Toyota. FAW Toyota’s RAV4 and Crown also sold well. Toyota’s YTD sales reached approximately 404,400 vehicles, up 3.1% y/y.
On May 9, Honda announced that it sold 109,518 vehicles in China, which was a y/y increase of 29.4%. By model, sales of the Accord, Civic, CR-V, and XR-V contributed to sales growth. Honda’s YTD sales reached 414,814 units, up 20% y/y.
On May 3, Mazda announced that it sold 22,835 units in China, growth of 17.9% y/y. Sales increased thanks to continued strong demand for models including the CX-4 and Atenza. The automaker’s YTD sales reached 87,274 units, up 12.2% y/y.
