Indian passenger vehicles sales cross 3 million mark first time in a fiscal year

In fiscal year 2016-17, passenger vehicle sales in India crossed the three million milestones for the first time ever.
According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicles Sales grew 9.2% to 3.05 million against 2.8 million in the previous year, despite impact of demonetisation, ban on diesel cars in NCR and uncertainty over emission norms.
Growth was largely driven by the sales of utility vehicles, up 29.9%. Domestic car sales during the year grew 3.8%, while vans sales grew 2.4%.
Total Indian vehicle sales in 2016-17 fiscal year was 3,760,959 units.
