German car sales jump 11.4% in March

On April 4, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 359,683 new passenger car registrations in March, an 11.4% increase from the same month last year.
Volkswagen brand sales of 63,384 units (17.6% market share) increased 0.6% in March compared to the same month in 2016.
Audi sales of 29,426 units (8.2% share) decreased 2.3% from last year.
Mercedes sales of 31,256 units (8.7% share) increased 14.0% in March.
Opel sales of 27,597 units (7.7% share) increased 18.3% from last year.
BMW brand sales of 27,787 units (7.7% share) increased 5.8% from the same month last year.
Ford sales of 27,219 units (7.6% share) increased 15.7% in March.
Sales of 30,661 trucks in March represented an increase of 16.7% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 704 buses represented an increase of 21.6%.
In March, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 56.5% market share, diesel vehicles had a 40.6% market share, and alternative fuel vehicles had a combined 2.9% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 430,800 units had decreased 9.0% and domestic production of 557,800 units had increased 7.0% from last March.
