U.S. car sales slide 1.6% in March

U.S. light vehicle sales of 1,555,859 units in March were down 1.6% as compared to the same month in 2016.
Truck and SUV sales rose 5.2% from last March to 943,860 units, while passenger car sales declined 10.6% to 611,999 units.
The overall SAAR for March was 16.62 million units.
The SAAR was 6.32 million units for passenger cars and 10.30 million units for trucks.
General Motors sales were up 1.5%.
Ford sales were down 7.2% and FCA sales were down 4.6% compared to March last year, with passenger car sales down 24.2% and 18.9% respectively.
Among Japanese companies, Nissan and Subaru sales were up 3.2% and 11.3% respectively, while Toyota and Honda sales were down 2.1% and 0.7% respectively compared to last March.
Hyundai sales decreased 8.0% and Kia sales decreased 15.2% from last year.
Among German companies, BMW, Daimler, and Volkswagen Group sales increased 3.6%, 2.0%, and 2.6% respectively, from the same month last year.
Volvo sales decreased 21.9%, while Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 18.9% from last March.
