German car sales rise 10.5% in January 2017

On February 2, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 241,399 new passenger car registrations in January, a 10.5% increase from the same month last year.
Volkswagen brand sales of 49,535 units (20.5% market share) increased 5.1% in January compared to the same month in 2016.
Audi sales of 21,668 units (9.0% share) increased 0.3% from last year.
Mercedes sales of 24,372 units (10.1% share) increased 20.1% in January.
Opel sales of 17,287 units (7.2% share) increased 4.5% from last year.
BMW brand sales of 20,387 units (8.4% share) increased 18.8% from the same month last year.
Ford sales of 15,841 units (6.6% share) increased 6.0% in January.
Sales of 20,001 trucks in January represented an increase of 3.2% from the previous year’s results, while the sale of 520 buses was a 13.5% increase from last year.
In January, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 52.2% market share, diesel vehicles had a 45.1% market share, and alternative fuel vehicles had a combined 2.7% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 346,500 units had increased 11.0% and domestic production of 462,900 units had increased 11.0% from last January.
