The Toyota Fortuner is a 3-row, 7-seater SUV part of the "IMV Series," a line of strategic vehicles designed for emerging markets. It is produced in India, Thailand, and Indonesia. The current model, which incorporates the TNGA platform, began production in October 2016 at the Toyota Kirloskar Motors plant in Bangalore in India. The parts used in the Indian-produced model are sourced primarily from Indian facilities of Japanese suppliers with close ties to Toyota, including Denso for the radiator, JTEKT for the steering system, Toyoda Gosei for interior and exterior plastic parts, Toyota Boshoku for seat assembly, and India Japan Lighting (Koito Manufacturing) for head lamps.

India’s off-road SUV market is dominated by the low-priced Mahindra Scorpio, whose sales are approximately five times those of the Fortuner. The Fortuner, positioned as a premium SUV known for its reliability and durability, added a 48V MHEV in June 2025 and is scheduled to receive a new model in 2027. Against this backdrop, MG launched the Majestor in May 2026, offering a larger body and more advanced safety features than the Fortuner. Attention is now focused on whether the new Fortuner can maintain and strengthen its stronger brand presence over the Majestor.

India’s automotive seat supplier market comprises global Tier 1 suppliers, major local companies, and foreign-owned and joint-venture companies. Supplier facilities are concentrated near OEM production sites, particularly around Chennai in the south, Pune in the west, and the Delhi NCR region and Uttarakhand in the north, reflecting the large size of seats and the need for just-in-time delivery.
