MAHLE Holding (China) Co., Ltd. Business Report FY ended Dec. 2021

Recent Developments

-Mahle announced that MAHLE chargeBIG, the former corporate start-up is now an independent subsidiary of the MAHLE group. With chargeBIG POWER, MAHLE chargeBIG  GmbH l offers a DC fast-charging solution with charging power of up to 750 kW, based on the proven chargeBIG principle of intelligent load management. This fast-charging solution allows charging parks at up to 20 charging points—even with a limited grid connectivity. The basic chargeBIG concept for AC charging is intended for fleets and applications with around 20 to 100, or even more, electrified parking spaces. This solution is particularly suited for parking spaces where electric vehicles are parked for longer periods. Charging power of up to 7.2 kW is used in most cases, but charging points delivering an output of up to 22 kW can also be integrated. Over the past six months, chargeBIG has installed around 500 new charging points. To gain a foothold in the international market, a charging park with 72 charging points was also built at a MAHLE branch in Changshu/China. In addition, chargeBIG has concluded a development cooperation agreement with power electronics specialist PRETTL Electronics Automotive to accelerate the market launch of its recently unveiled fast-charging solution chargeBIG POWER. (From a press release on April 7, 2022)

-Mahle announced the launch of anew “Electronics and Mechatronics Development Center” in the city of Changshu in China. Around 70 engineers will focus on developing solutions for alternative fuels to further expanding the company’s systems expertise in electric powertrains as well as electronics and mechatronics. Further activities will include charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs) as well as thermal management applications for alternative fuels. Due to the pandemic, the grand opening of the new Tech Center was slated to take place in the second half of 2021. The new center in Changshu will play a key role as a further innovation hub for the Group’s activities in the fields of alternative fuels, alongside Mahle’s major technology centers for electronics and mechatronics in Kornwestheim (Germany), Šempeter pri Gorici (Slovenia) and Valencia (Spain). (From a press release on April 21, 2021)

R&D Developments

-Mahle announced that it will showcase about 150 innovations and product solutions at the Shanghai Motor Show. Around two-thirds of these exhibits will come from the alternative fuel drives and thermal management fields of technology. Mahle will showcase the latest generation of high-voltage PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heaters. An innovative method of integrating the electronics makes these heating elements more compact, lighter, and cheaper. Combined with a heat pump, the ranges of electric vehicles can be extended by up to 20% or in sub-zero temperatures. The electric compressor from Mahle is another product highlight. As theheart of the air conditioning and refrigerant circuit to control the temperature in the cabin and the air conditioning of the battery in electric vehicles, the e-compressor also allows fast charging of the battery when the vehicle is stationary. (From a press release on April 16, 2021)
