Product Development

Hybrid-Acoustics PET
-The Company has adapted its textile interior technology Hybrid-Acoustics for use in the engine compartment. Starting in spring 2020, e-motor encapsulations made of Hybrid-Acoustics PET are being produced for various new electric models of a Swedish car manufacturer at the Taicang plant in China (Jiangsu province). The Company will supply engine-mounted parts to various French and Japanese vehicle models with combustion engines from its site in Ons-en-Bray, France. The patented innovation is based on a unique fiber material that acts as an insulator and absorber at the same time. Among others, Hybrid-Acoustics PET is used to encapsulate electric motors, thereby reducing noise directly at the source and particularly attenuating high-frequency sounds of the electric drive unit. This key technology accordingly ensures optimum noise protection in the passenger cabin and greater driving comfort. Compared to conventional insulators, Hybrid-Acoustics PET components are up to 40 percent lighter and thereby contributing to a greater driving range. They are also flameproof and find application as powertrain-mounted insulators for combustion engines thanks to their temperature resistance of up to 180°C. Components made of Hybrid-Acoustics PET consist entirely of PET, which is largely obtained from recycled fibers. (From a press release on November 5, 2019)

Online configurator "Acoustic Garage"
-The Company launched an online configurator called “Acoustic Garage” for the acoustic management of vehicles. The portal offers a comprehensive information and product experience on all aspects of noise protection in cars. In addition, users can customize various acoustic components according to their individual requirements. In this way, the Company supports vehicle manufacturers in ensuring optimal acoustics in future models. The Company has predefined several product combinations that meet the various requirements of modern mobility, such as maximum weight reduction or high driving comfort. In addition, multiple technologies for a specific component can be compared on the basis of selected criteria such as lightweight construction, sustainability and aesthetics. Acoustic Garage is based on the Company’s unique simulation expertise: Internally developed software calculates the acoustic performance of selected components and vehicle setups in real time and generates a detailed analysis that can be shared, saved and categorized. Textile wheelhouse outer liner "Alpha-Liner"
-The Company launched first-ever textile wheelhouse outer liner - Alpha-Liner. It not only reduces tire noise substantially, but also convinces with low weight. Compared to corresponding components made of plastic, Alpha-Liner convinces with a lower weight, ensuring a greater driving range especially for electric vehicles. Alpha-Liner is based on its newly developed technology, with which noise absorption can be adapted to the specific requirements of the vehicle model for the first time. To achieve this effect, a thin coated surface is applied on the tire side. The porosity of the coating can then be controlled according to the necessary absorption properties, the bottom part of the wheelhouse outer liner requires stronger noise treatment, which maximizes acoustic absorption. From 2024, newly registered vehicles in the European Union will be allowed to generate a maximum of 68 decibels of external noise, a challenge for manufacturers and suppliers alike in light of the current threshold of 72 decibels and already highly acoustically optimized cars. To achieve this substantial noise reduction, Alpha-Liner will make an important contribution. (From a press release on July 8, 2019)

Textile battery undercovers made of "Ultra-Silent"
-The Company is extending its product portfolio with textile battery undercovers made of Ultra-Silent that optimally meet the specific requirements for acoustic and thermal management of electric vehicles. It has adapted this textile underbody technology for use in electric vehicles for the first time. The components act as insulators helping to lower sound that enters the passenger cabin, for instance caused by tires, and also pass-by noise. At the same time, the textile battery undercovers also convince thanks to their low weight: They are up to 50 percent lighter than corresponding components made of plastic and thus ensure a greater driving range. From July 2020 onwards, the first battery undercovers will be produced in series at the Gundernhausen plant for the fully-electric model of a German premium manufacturer. Undercovers made of Ultra-Silent are installed underneath the battery casing, providing the battery cells with the best possible protection against significant cooling or heating and ensuring a constant temperature with a correspondingly optimized battery capacity. As a result, the components help to improve battery performance. (From a press release on May 9, 2019)
