Business Overview
-The Company develops and manufactures premium seats from complete seating systems to individual components serving various applications including passenger cars and commercial vehicles under its brand name Recaro.
-In 2011, as a result of Johnson Controls (currently Adient)' acquisitions of the seating business of Recaro Automotive (for passenger cars) and Keiper (for commercial vehicles), the product business unit Recaro Automotive Seating, which belongs to Johnson Controls, carved out to offer complete premium seats for passenger cars and commercial vehicles under its new brand name Recaro.
-In July 2024, the Company filed for insolvency with the Local Court of Esslingen in Germany due to financial difficulties caused by rising costs in recent crisis years and the loss of a major contract. The court approved preliminary self-administration. The insolvency proceedings affected only Recaro Automotive GmbH, with full production continuing to fulfill all existing orders and new customer inquiries.
-On December 4, 2024, Proma Group signed an investment agreement with the Company to take over the business and began the transition period. This investment has allowed the Company to continue and relaunch its operations across Europe as of January 2025. Several employees from the original Sales and Technology departments have been retained at the Company’s location in Stuttgart, Germany. Since then, the RECARO brand for automotive seats has been licensed to Proma Group. At the same time, the aftermarket seats returned to the market, while OEM production was transferred to Italy, with the first seats already entering production. The Company’s operations in North America and Japan continue to function as usual.
