Business Overview
-The Company is a leading manufacturer of highly engineered power transmission and fluid power solutions across a range of end markets. It supplies synchronous belts and asynchronous drive belts as well as thermal and emissions management components for its automotive customers.
-The Company is organized into two operating segments based on product line:
- Power Transmission: The segment manufactures solutions which transfer power, convey materials and provide motion control.
- Fluid Power: The segment manufactures solutions which transfer hydraulic power or convey fluids, gases or other materials across locations.
-The Company supplies its products to replacement and original equipment customers. In the fiscal year ended December 28, 2024, approximately 9% of the Company’s total net sales were generated from automotive OEM customers.

History
1911 | Founded as a manufacturer of leather for tires. |
1917 | Began phasing out leather in favor of rubber, the Company changed its name to International Rubber Company. |
Developed a V-belt, which is their major product. | |
1954 | Its first international manufacturing facility was build in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. |
1958 | Opened a manufacturing facility in Mexico. |
1963 | Built a belt and hose plant in Erembodegem, Belgium, the first of many European facilities. |
1980s | Acquired the Uniroyal Power Transmission Company. |
1996 | The Company was acquired by the British-based Tomkins plc, which became a part of Pinnafore Group in 2000s. |
2003 | Changed its name to Gates Corporation. |
Aug. 2011 | Divested its Powertrain business to Sterling Group. |
Jul. 2014 | Pinafore Holdings, the Company's parent company, was acquired by private equity funds managed by Blackstone, an investment and advisory firm. |
Jan. 2018 | The Company is listed on New York Stock Exchange. |
