Business Overview
-The Company is a leading manufacturer of innovative, highly engineered power transmission and fluid power solutions, serving replacement and original equipment (“first-fit”) customers. It supplies synchronous belt and asynchronous drive belts as well as hoses for its automotive customers.
-The Company is organized into two operating segments based on product line:
- Power Transmission: Solutions which transfer power, convey materials and provide motion control
- Fluid Power: Solutions which transfer hydraulic power or convey fluids, gases or other materials across locations
-In the fiscal year ended December 30, 2023, approximately 36% of the Company’s net sales were generated from first-fit customers.

History
1911 | Founded as a manufacturer of leather for tire. |
1917 | Began phasing out leather in favor of rubber, the Company changed its name to International Rubber Company. |
Developed a V-belt, which is their major product. | |
1954 | Its first international manufacturing facility was build in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. |
1958 | Opened a manufacturing facility in Mexico. |
1963 | Built a belt and hose plant in Erembodegem, Belgium, the first of many European facilities. |
1980s | Acquired the Uniroyal Power Transmission Company. |
1996 | The Company was acquired by the British-based Tomkins plc, which became a part of Pinnafore Group in 2000s. |
2003 | Changed its name to Gates Corporation. |
Aug. 2011 | Divested its Powertrain business to Sterling Group. |
Jul. 2014 | Pinafore Holdings, the Company's parent company, was acquired by private equity funds managed by Blackstone, an investment and advisory firm. |
Jan. 2018 | The company is listed on New York Stock Exchange. |
