Divestitures

-The Company officially divested all of its stocks or 5% of the company's stocks owned by the Company in PT. EDS Manufacturing Indonesia, which produces automotive wiring harness to YIC Asia Pacific Corporation Ltd. which is based in Thailand. The total stocks sold were 360 stocks with a total price of approximately 3.6 million USD. (From a press release on May 2, 2012)

New Company

-In 2012, the Company established new subsidiaries with 100% ownership by the Company which are "PT Autoplastik Indonesia" to produce automotive parts made of plastic, and "PT Velasto Indonesia" to produce automotive parts made of rubber and metal.

Joint Ventures

-In 2012, the Company established a Joint Venture company named "PT Astra Juoku Indonesia" which produce automotive lamp components with Juoku Technology of Taiwan and PT. Takagi Sari Multi Utama of Indonesia.

Recent Developmpent in Indonesia

-In Oct. 2012, the Company launched the operation of a new factory of PT Century Batteries in Mitra Karawang Industrial Estate with the capacity of 600,000 units per year.

-In May 2012, the Company started the operation of a new factory of PT Nusa Keihin Indonesia in Cibitung with the capacity of 970,000 units per year.

R&D

R&D Facilities

-The Company conducts R&D activities mainly in Engineering Development Center Division established in 2010.

-In 2012, the Company commenced the operation of Engineering Development Center in Cikarang with more than 100 employees dedicating to the R&D activities.

Technology Licensing-in Agreement

-PT Kayaba Indonesia signed an agreement to license in technology from KYB, its joint-venture partner, for automotive shock absorbers, and motorcycle front forks and oil cushion units. The agreement, which covers industrial property rights; manufacturing and sales rights; and technological knowledge, information and expertise, is from February 1, 2010 to January 31, 2014.

-PT Federal Nittan Industries renewed the technical-license agreement it formed with its joint-venture partner Nittan Valve. The licensing agreement, which covers compact engine valves, is for a five-year period starting June 1, 2010. The Company is paying Nittan Value licensing fees for some of the technical rights.

Investment Activities

Capital Expenditure

-The Company's joint-venture partner, Akebono Brake, plans to invest 1,200 million yen in facilities and equipment at PT Akebono Brake Astra Indonesia to manufacture disk-brakes and brake components. Akebono Brake also is planning to invest in 300 million yen in facilities and equipment at Akebono Brake Astra Vietnam Co., Ltd. to manufacture disk-brakes and master cylinders. 

-The Company's joint-venture partner, Nittan Value, plans to invest 450 million yen in facilities and equipment at PT Federal Nittan Industries in the 2012 fiscal year ending in December. The investment will be used to upgrade and renew facilities and equipment producing compact engine values, as well as to increase production capacity, which is forecast to rise by 12% after the investment project has been completed.

Investment in Indonesia

-In Nov. 2011, Denso Indonesia held a ground breaking ceremony for its 3rd plant construction in the area of 20 hectares located in Bekasi, West Cikarang

-In Sep. 2012, a ground breaking ceremony was held for the construction of a new factory of PT Gemala Kempa Daya located in Cikampek with the capacity of 36,000 units per year.

-The Company announced that it held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new plant PT Inti Ganda Perdana in Karawang, Indonesia. It is expected that with the establishment of this new factory, it would increase the production capacity especially on shaft axle D80 (ADM Engine), hub front, and others. This new factory erected on a 4.8 ha land is planned to finish at the end of 2012. (From a press release on May 15, 2012)

-The Company signed an agreement with Juoku Technology of Taiwan and PT. Takagi Sari Multi Utama of Indonesia to construct a new factory in Indonesia that will produce automotive lamp components. This new factory announced as PT Astra Juoku Indonesia. The new plant that will cover 2.5 hectares in Karawang, Jawa Barat, is expected to produce around 2 million automotive lamps when fully operational in 2016. (From a press release on May 1, 2012)
