-Breakdown of product orders as of March 2019

  • Nissan (redesigned DAYZ), Mitsubishi redesigned eK Wagon: body parts, transmission parts, plastic parts
  • Nissan Vasa in Mexico: new orders. Production from May 2019
  • Nissan Sylphy in China: new orders. Production from May 2019
  • Mitsubishi Delica D:5: New orders for front under-covers, front splash-shields, rear splash-shields. Production from February 2019
  • Hino Dutro: New orders for engine side-covers, floor side-fenders. Production from May 2019. Company's first order from Hino.

-The Company is planning 21 new-model launches in FY2019.

R&D Activities

<Body-parts Business>

  1. Strengthening battery cases
  2. Development of small pitch-spot welding technology.
    Used on the Nissan Leaf e+ that was released in January 2019.
    -Development of technology that maintains the welding strength for small pitch welding. Doubles the number of welding spots that can placed on surfaces, strengthening parts. Strengthening parts reduces weight and costs, and eliminates the needs for reinforcement parts/materials.
  3. Hot-pressing technology
    • Ultra-deep-drawn parts
      Development of ultra-deep-drawing power that doubles the drawing power compared to before.
    • Rapid cooling technology.
      Improves the cooling rate of dies by 40%, and doubles productivity.
    • Coating technology that improves the performance/durability of plating adhesion.
      Improves the performance/durability of plating adhesion of coatings on dies, which increases the number of units that can be produced to 60% more than before, making maintenance-free production possible.

<Transmission-parts Business>

  1. Launched production of a torque converter for compact vehicles in October 2018.
    Being delivered to the Jatco CVT-S, Jatco's new-type CVT.
  2. Joint development with Japan Steel Corporation of a damper plate that uses gas softening-nitrided steel plates.
    Improves quality by reducing the amount of distortion caused by heat.

<Plastics Business>

  1. Development of plastic battery cases that respond to requirements for weight reduction, in line with the advancement of electrification.

ーUnipres announced plans to invest USD 40 million for an expansion at its production facility in Steele, Alabama. The expansion will include adding a new hot stamping process, which will enhance production of parts for Nissan Motor’s luxury mid-size vehicle. Unipres Alabama has been a Tier One supplier to Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln, and Honda's East Liberty Plant in Ohio for many years.
