JSAE 2006
-Highlights-
Products mainly related to compact size, light weight and the environment were on display.
-Technologies related to compact size and light weight.-
Metal Core PCB for Junction Boxes and Relay Boxes
-By making junction boxes and relay boxes more compact, the Company is helping to save space in vehicles.
-The soak-action process used for metal core boards, which demonstrates superior performance in joining electronic parts, makes circuit wiring 20% smaller in width compared to conventional parts.
-As material for a metal core PCB, aluminum was used when it was installed on Toyota models in 2002, but copper has been used for relay boxes since installed on the Honda Civic in 2006.
Flat Harness
By applying piercing connection technology, the direct parts connection to flat harness and circuit formation of harness have been made possible, which enables speedy and flexible response to layout changes.
-Flat harness for sliding door--Small installation space enables a speaker and a cup holder to be embedded in the sliding door. A pierce port is used at the terminal. The flat harness is now installed on Mazda "MPV."
-Flat harness for mounting LED is under joint development with Koito Manufacturing.-
-Technologies for the Environment
- Focusing on power sources, especially electricity, as the next generation technology.
Condition Monitor for Lead Acid Battery
-Under joint development with Furukawa Battery the product is designed to continuously monitor the condition of a lead battery (Deterioration and charging amount) for detection of battery life and power.
The Company is looking to putting the new product on the market within two or three years.
Tokyo Motor Show 2005
-Steering roll connectors send the signal that activates airbags to the inflator located in the steering wheel.
-The Company, which produces three kinds: Spiral, Roller U-turn, and
Multi-tape U-turn, is a market leader in the industry; with a 60% share of the market in Japan and a 40% share worldwide.
-The Company supplies SRCs to all major domestic car manufacturers in Japan such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Suzuki. The Company itself supplies these to non-Japanese makers such as GM and Hyundai Motor, while Tokai Rika Co. Ltd. supplies them to Ford and Volvo.
Harness for Sliding Door:
-Compared to competitors' sliding doors, these doors were made more compact by 70% and lighter in weight by 72%.
-They are being featured in several Toyota models. The Company plans to supply them to other manufacturers.
Piercing-connection Technology Used in Harnesses Photo
-Piercing-connection technology makes it possible for direct parts to be mounted to flat harnesses, as well as making circuit formation possible in wire harnesses.
Terminal for Flat Harness-Photo
-The Company was able to develop flat harnesses that are thin and light for automotive applications. These flat harnesses are able to replace conventional wires. There advantages are as follows:
-Light electric cable: 35% less weight
-Thin: Contributed to saving space and easier wiring
-Streamlined work process: Since flat-harness terminals can be directly connected to the flat harnesses themselves by using piercing technology, the coating removal process is no longer necessary during production. Thus this solution makes it possible to not only streamline the production process of flat harnesses but also enables terminals to be fastened more securely. Additionally, it enables wires to be more easily installed during the assembly process.
JB/RBs & Thermal Solutions
-By making junction boxes and relay boxes more compact, the Company is helping to save space in vehicles.
-The soak-action process used for metal core boards, which demonstrates superior performance in joining electronic parts, makes circuit wiring 20% smaller in width compared to conventional parts.
-Mirco Heat Pipes
Although micro heat pipes are mainly installed in laptop PCs and computer-game machines, they can also be applied to automotive uses such as in joint-boxes inside engine rooms. They are currently being installed in the Toyota Landcruiser and Daihatsu vehicles.
Batteries
- Valve Regulated Lead-Acid Battery (VRLA) for stop-start systems
- Battery with built in tester
- Backup battery module for X-by-wire systems
Electromagnetic Induction Steering Angle Sensor
This sensor, with low hysteresis and high resolution, is used in stability control systems and steer-by-wire systems.
Antenna Solution
-The Company uses a proprietary polymer that enables antennas to be made more compact in size, in addition to giving them greater flexibility in terms of shape. It is being used in ETC antennas.
Aluminum Cable
Metal Material
-Electrode metals for use in spark plugs
-Copper-nickel alloy for electrical resistance
Furukawa SMA NT
This is scheduled to be installed in the new Mercedes Benz A-Class.
