  Continuing from the previous installment, which covered Japanese and Korean OEMs, this report will give an overview of newly unveiled models from state owned Chinese makers at Auto Shanghai 2017 including green vehicles and concept cars.

  Like at the show in 2016, Chinese automakers exhibited popular SUV models and new energy vehicles (NEVs) with a particular focus on PHV models. The state-owned OEMs freed themselves from their conservative image by appealing to young attendees with virtual reality (VR) attractions and displays of connected cars at their booths.

  The SAIC Motor Group, which is headquartered in Shanghai, announced prices for the Roewe ei6 EV and the Roewe i6 gasoline engine vehicles at its large booth. The automaker also unveiled a new SUVs and wagons from the Wuling and Baojun brands. All the new gasoline engine models of the Dongfeng Motor Group were SUVs, and an extensive lineup of NEVs was exhibited, including a new sedan, and SUV and MPV models. BAIC Group promoted strong selling NEVs and its Senova own brand. The FAW Group exhibited vehicles from its flagship Hongqi brand, as well as the Junpai and Besturn brands. Along with unveiling compact models for each SUV and crossover in the CS series of its Changan brand, Changan Automobile released a family-friendly MPV from the Oushang brand targeting the younger generation. Guangzhou Automobile placed the logo of their Trumpchi brand above the booth entrance to promote the brand name. The company unveiled a model exhibited at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, and an NEV, its first EV.

SAIC: An extensive lineup of sedans, SUVs, wagons, and other vehicles

  At the beginning of April 2017, SAIC Motor which is located in the same city the motor show was held, announced its focus on four areas of evolution; electrification, networking, intelligence, and sharing. At this motor show, as along with promoting an intelligent system for connected cars that is to be provided in a 2018 mass production model of the Roewe VISION-E concept car, SAIC focused on its extensive lineup by showing models from the Roewe, Wuling, Baojun, and MG brands.

  SAIC announced the price of the Roewe ei6 green vehicle that it unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2016. A red, sporty concept car from the MG brand attracted attention. The first SUV and wagon models were unveiled from each of the Wuling and Baojun brands, which had the top 2 selling MPVs in China in 2016. The Wuling Hongguang S3 and Baojun 310 Wagon models are sibling vehicles.

Roewe, MG Brand

Roewe ei6 SAIC launched the Roewe ei6 PHV family sedan that it unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show in 2016. This model adopts the SAIC Motor Group's Matrix Internet Platform (MIT), a modular platform. It is also a connected car equipped with the group's latest intelligent systems.
The vehicle comes with a 1.0L 3-cylinder direct injection turbo engine and a motor. The maximum output of the system is 168 kW with a maximum torque of 622 Nm. It has a range of 705 km. The fuel consumption is 1.5L/100km. It has a length of 4,671 mm, width of 1,835 mm, height of 1,460 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,715 mm. This model adopts seats made of Alcantara. Prices start from CNY 201,800.
The 12.3 inch LCD virtual instrument panel allows drivers to easily ascertain various information about the vehicle, including its position thanks to the 3D navigation system, as well as how much charge the battery has remaining. The intelligent system can be accessed after an ID is registered, and this allows connection to big data and Wi-Fi via the cloud. This system also provides access to various types of information, such as road conditions, parking spaces, charging stations, and personal maps. The cabin environment can be adjusted by setting devices like the air conditioning and seat heaters before getting in the vehicle and the doors can be locked and unlocked via a smart phone application. A voice recognition function enables operation of the air conditioning, sun roof, navigation, and the front and rear seat heaters. This information is displayed on a 10.2 inch LCD touch panel, and video from a 360 degree camera is also projected on it.
This model is equipped with safety assist functions, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDS) and Speed Assist System (SAS).

Roewe i6 SAIC launched a 16T model of the Roewe i6 that was unveiled in 2016. This model adopts the SAIC Motor Group's new MIT platform.
The powertrain comes with a 1.0L direct injection turbo engine and 6-speed MT or 7-speed DCT. Its maximum output is 92 kW and its maximum torque 170 Nm. The vehicle has a length of 4,671 mm, width of 1,835 mm, height of 1,460 mm and a wheelbase of 2,715 mm. Prices start from CNY 94,800.
This model is equipped with an air cleaning system for PM2.5, and an eco-mode, which are common equipment for all three grades. Like the top grade ei6 model, the intelligent system can be accessed after an ID is registered.

Roewe VISION-E

A Roewe brand EV concept car that combines new energy technology and connected technology was unveiled for the first time.
"VISION" refers to electromotion and technology, and the direction SAIC will take to bring about an EV era for the Roewe brand. "E" refers to "Electric, Eco, and Era" and refers to the arrival of a new century for internet and automobiles.
The concept car unveiled at this year's motor show was in the form of the 2018 mass production model and equipped with the latest version of an intelligent connected system jointly researched and developed by the SAIC Motor Group and Alibaba. This model is also equipped with various functions, including an augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD), automatic parking, and wireless charging. The range is 500 km and it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds.

Wuling, Baojun Brand

Wuling Hongguang S3 SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile unveiled a compact 7-seater SUV. The platform is based on the Wuling Hongguang MPV.
It comes with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine or 1.5L turbo engine and has a front engine rear wheel drive (FR) configuration. The vehicle has a length of 4,655 mm, width of 1,735 mm, height of 1,780 mm, and wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
Baojun 310 Wagon SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile unveiled its first wagon model targeting the younger generation.
The vehicle is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine. It has a length of 4,620 mm, width of 1,710 mm, height of 1,535 mm, and wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The wagon has luggage capacity of 740 L that increases to 1,460 L when the second-row seats are folded down. According to some news reports, this model will be released in June 2017 with prices starting from CNY 45,800.

DFM: Unveiled new models with a focus on SUVs targeting the younger generation

  Dongfeng Motor Group's booth clearly divided NEVs from gasoline engine vehicles. The automaker was aiming to highlight its sensitivity to consumer needs by showcasing only SUVs for its three model unveilings. Moreover, Dongfeng Motor considers NEVs a core, growth business, and it exhibited sedan, SUV and MPV models at the show.

Fengshen AX-4 The Fengshen AX-4 compact urban SUV was unveiled for the first time. This is a passenger vehicle positioned to strategically target the younger generation born in the 1990s and after. Mass production will start from July 2017 and the vehicle launched in October 2017.
The vehicle comes with a 1.4L turbo engine that was researched and developed by the Dongfeng Motor Corp. Technical Center and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. It has a length of 4,195 mm, width of 1,780 mm, height of 1,622 mm, and wheelbase of 2,580 mm.
The vehicle is equipped with safety functions, including an anti-skid brake system, rear monitoring, front and side airbags, and low-speed collision avoidance system. The Dongfeng Fengshen WindLink intelligent connected system is equipped with an on-board diagnostics function, a network connection system for linking smart phones with the cloud that allows calls to service centers to ascertain breakdown conditions, and infotainment and voice recognition functions. Installing the Dongfeng Fengshen application in a smart phone enables control of the air conditioning from outside the vehicle, remote locking and unlocking of the doors, and the placing of emergency calls.

Fengdu MX3 Dongfeng debuted the Fengdu MX3 compact urban SUV, which was designed by a team led by Mr. Tsuyoshi Yamazaki, a Japanese employee of Zhengzhou Nissan (he was the former product chief designer of the Nissan Elgrand).
The vehicle comes with a 1.6L engine or 1.4L turbo engine and a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed DCT. It has a length of 4,506 mm, width of 1,806 mm, height of 1,670 mm, and wheelbase of 2,630 mm.

Fengxing Jingyi X6 Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor premiered its Jingyi X6 7-seater SUV, a Fengxing series vehicle.
The vehicle has a 2.0L engine and 6-speed MT or a 1.5L twin turbo engine (Mitsubishi 4A91T) and CVT. The 1.5L twin turbo engine has a maximum output of 110 kW and maximum torque of 200 Nm. The vehicle is 4,710 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, 1,790 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

Fengshen AX5-EV The first Dongfeng Fengshen brand crossover EV, the Fengshen AX5-EV, was unveiled for the first time.
It has a maximum output of 90 kW, maximum torque of 260 Nm, battery capacity of 49 kWh, and a range of 300 km. The battery can be charged to 80% in one hour. It has a length of 4,501 mm, width of 1,806 mm, height of 1,640 mm, and wheelbase of 2,630 mm.

Fengxing Lingji M5-EV An EV MPV researched and developed by Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor was unveiled for the first time.
It has a maximum output of 80 kW, maximum torque of 450 Nm, battery capacity of 38 to 41 kWh, and a range of 200 km. The battery can be charged in one hour. It has a length of 5,145 mm, width of 1,720 mm, height of 1,980 mm, and wheelbase of 3,000 mm.

It has a maximum output of 90 kW, maximum torque of 260 Nm, and a range of 350 km. The motor was researched and developed by Dongfeng Fengshen Motor. It has a length of 4,680 mm, width of 1,720 mm, height of 1,530 mm, and wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

BAIC: Unveiled various types of new energy vehicles designed to meet consumer needs

  BAIC Motor announced that it had concluded a strategic cooperation agreement with Baidu in the connected car field at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and that the partners plan to realize Level 3/Level 4 autonomous driving between 2020 and 2025. The BAIC Group established Beijing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. in 2009 and is progressively promoting the introduction of NEVs into the market. At this show as well, BAIC exhibited various models designed to meet consumer needs, including sedans, SUVs, off-road, and supercar level vehicles.

Senova D50 The Senova D50 compact family sedan underwent a full model change.
The vehicle comes with a 1.5L engine and 5-speed MT or CVT or a 1.5L turbo engine and 6-speed MT. The maximum output of the 1.5L engine is 83 kW and it has a maximum torque of 147 Nm. The 1.5L turbo engine has a maximum output of 100 kW and maximum torque of 210 Nm. It has a length of 4,630 mm, width of 1,820 mm, height of 1,480 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.
This model is equipped with drive assist functions, including Surround View System, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Automated Parking Assist (APA).
Production has started at the second plant in Hunan that was completed in May 2017. This model will be released in the 3rd quarter of 2017.
Senova X55 This is an all-new version of the Senova X55 urban SUV. The model will be released in the 2nd half of 2017.
The maximum output of the 1.5L turbo engine is 110 kW. It has a length of 4,480 mm, width of 1,809 mm, height of 1,680 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,665 mm.

The "ARCFOX-1" mass production EV concept car exhibited at the Beijing Motor Show 2016 was displayed.
The range of this vehicle is 180 km and it has a maximum speed of 120 km/h. It has a length of 2,986 mm, width of 1,676 mm, height of 1,492 mm, and wheelbase of 1,870 mm.
Aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and carbon fiber reinforced composites were used to reduce the weight of the body by 30% compared to a similarly sized body made of steel.

EX400L (Concept car) The EX400L compact SUV EV concept was unveiled for the first time.
It has a length of 4,470 mm and wheelbase of 2,650 mm. The range of this vehicle is 400 km and it has a maximum speed of 150 km/h. The model is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system and collision avoidance system.

BJ80 PHEV The large size BJ80 off-road PHEV SUV model was unveiled for the first time. This model will be released in 2018.
The vehicle comes with a 2.3L turbo engine and motor mated with a 6-speed AT. The engine has a maximum output of 178 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm. The maximum output of the motor is 150 kW. It has a length of 4,765 mm, width of 1,890 mm, and height of 2,005 mm (with no load).

EH300 The EH300 medium size EV sedan EH300 was released in early April 2017 and is targeted at business executives.
It has a maximum output of 100 kW, maximum torque of 210 Nm, battery capacity of 54.6 kWh, and a range of 300 km. The battery can be charged to 80% in 45 minutes. It has a length of 4,946 mm, width of 1,860 mm, height of 1,483 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,830 mm.
A 10.1 inch monitor installed in the center console enables control of the air conditioning, operation of the navigation system, and connection with smart phones. The rear seats of the higher grade vehicle are equipped with two monitors. The vehicle has rear monitoring, rear sensing, and blind spot monitoring functions.

Coolcar E Jiangxi Changhe Automobile, an affiliate of the BAIC Group, unveiled the EV Coolcar E for the first time. The Coolcar is based on the Wagon R+, a vehicle produced by Jiangxi Changhe Automobile's joint venture partner Suzuki Motor. The Coolcar E comes in two types; a distribution model and passenger model. The distribution model is expected to be used for the last leg of travel in large cities. The target of the passenger model is the customer segment that is looking for a passenger car in a low price range in small and medium size cities.
The maximum output is 41 kW and the range 165 km. It has a length of 3,400 mm, width of 1,570 mm, height of 1,685 mm, and wheelbase of 2,835 mm.

FAW: Promoted its technological capabilities with platform for energy saving cars and NEVs, unveiled the first wagon model from one of its own brands

  The FAW Group exhibited a platform for each of its powertrains at the show to promote the results of their research and development of advanced technologies, with applications such as energy saving cars and NEVs. Seven models from the long-established Hongqi brand including concept cars were exhibited. The first wagon from their Junpai brand was unveiled. The automaker also showed off its first Besturn brand mass production EV.

Hongqi H5 The group unveiled the first Hongqi brand middle class sport sedan targeting the younger generation. The Hongqi brand was originally for high-ranking government officials. The model shown at Auto Shanghai was a mass production model that was showcased as the Hongqi B concept at the Beijing Motor Show 2016. Some reports have said that the platform is based on the Atenza, a model from FAW's joint venture partner Mazda.
The luxury model comes with a 1.8L turbo engine and 6-speed AT. The maximum output is 131 kW and the maximum torque 250 Nm. It has a length of 4,935 mm, width of 1,840 mm, height of 1,470 mm, and wheelbase of 2,870 mm.
This model is equipped with rear monitoring, cruise control, a lane departure warning system, and front seat heaters.
Hongqi H7 PHEV A fully remodeled PHV version of the Hongqi H7 luxury sedan was unveiled. This model will be released in the 4th quarter of 2017.
The vehicle comes with a 2.0L direct injection 4-cylinder turbo engine (rated output of 145 kW, maximum torque of 280 Nm), and a motor (maximum output of 55 kW, maximum torque of 280 Nm). The transmission is a 7-speed DCT. The EV range is 50 km and the vehicle has fuel consumption of 2.4L/100 km. It has a length of 5,095 mm, width of 1,875 mm, height of 1,485 mm, and wheelbase of 2,970 mm.
The PHV is equipped with a lane departure warning system, forward collision warning system, rear monitoring, and an anti-theft system (vehicle and engine).

Junpai, Besturn Brand

Junpai CX65 FAW Group company Tianjin FAW XIALI Automobile unveiled a wagon version of the Junpai CX65. The model adopts a design that integrates the ride comfort of a sedan, driving performance of an SUV, and interior space of an MPV. It was developed not only for daily use, but can also be used for applications like traveling and picking up customers.
The vehicle has a 1.0L direct injection turbo engine with a 6-speed MT or 7-speed DCT. A 1.6L naturally aspirated engine is also available. It has a length of 4,560 mm, width of 1,770 mm, height of 1,500 mm, and wheelbase of 2,600 mm.
This model is equipped with functions, including keyless entry, an electric sun roof, 8 inch monitor, rear monitoring system and infotainment system. It will be released in 2018.

Junpai A50 Tianjin FAW XIALI unveiled a compact sedan. This model will be released at the end of 2017.
It comes with a 1.5L engine and 5-speed MT. The engine has a maximum output of 83 kW and maximum torque of 141 Nm. The vehicle is 4,550 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, 1,496 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.

Besturn B30 EV The FAW Group company FAW Car showcased the first EV model from its Besturn brand. This is a mass production model that was unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show 2016 for the first time. It will be released in June 2017.
It has a maximum output of 80 kW, maximum torque of 228 Nm, battery capacity of 32.24 kWh, and a range of 205 km. The vehicle is 4,625 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, 1,500 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.

Changan: Announced a strategic alliance with Intel and unveiled an MPV for urban families

  Changan Automobile signed a strategic alliance agreement with Intel Corp. on the 2nd press day. Accordingly, Changan Automobile will promote the development of autonomous driving technology and development of connected cars based on Intel's autonomous driving solution Intel GOTM. Specifically, both companies will collaborate in four fields; intelligent mobility, intelligent networks such as 5G, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), and road-to-vehicle (R2V) communication, the interactive networks, which will involve the joint development of a big data platform to analyze vehicle information and provide products and services to users, and artificial intelligence.

  On April 23, the opening day of the show, Changan Automobile announced that they will change the name of the Changan Commercial Vehicle Division to the Changan Oushang Division. In accordance with the diversification of consumer needs, the company will promote the Changan Oushang brand not only for commercial vehicles, but also for the passenger vehicle market. The 1st model will be the A800 7-seater MPV, a strategic Oushang brand model.

The model was designed by Changan Automobile's global research and development organization. Specifically, the exterior was developed by a design center in Turin, Italy, the interior by an interior design R&D center in Yokohama, Japan, the engine by an engine R&D center in Birmingham, England, and the chassis by an R&D center in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.
The vehicle comes with a new Bluecore 1.5L turbo engine and 6-speed automatic transmission made by Aisin. It has a length of 4,810 mm, width of 1,795 mm, height of 1,750 mm, and wheelbase of 2,760 mm.
This model is equipped with a 10.1 inch TFT touch panel monitor, Wi-Fi, blind spot monitoring, parking assist, anti-skid brake system (Bosch ESP9.1), anti-theft system, PM2.5 removal system, and an ion generator.
Changan Automobile's In-Call 3.1 connected car system allows users to manage vehicle conditions, lock and unlock the doors from a distance, and check the amount of gasoline remaining. The air conditioning, sun roof, and other functions can also be controlled via a smart phone application.

CS55 SUV The SUV CS55 compact crossover was unveiled for the first time. It will be released in July 2017.
The vehicle comes with a new 1.5L turbo engine and 6-speed automatic transmission made by Aisin. It has a length of 4,500 mm, width of 1,855 mm, height of 1,690 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
This model is equipped with lane keeping assist, a surround view monitoring system, and front seat heaters. It is also equipped with Changan Automobile's In-Call connected car system, which provides access to various types of information on navigation functions, weather, the infotainment system, and so on.
CS15 EV An EV version of the CS15 compact SUV was revealed. This model will be released in the summer of 2017.
The SUV's motor has maximum output of 55 kW and maximum torque of 170 Nm, battery capacity of 42.57 kWh, and a range of 300 km.

GAC: Announced a new brand strategy to aspire for global influence by 2020

  Guangzhou Automobile has been achieved success with its own brand and was the only Chinese OEM to exhibit vehicles at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. At this motor show, the automaker announced group wide initiatives to comprehensively improve its brands in terms of technology, product quality, and production; and a new strategy to effectively build up a core brand with enhanced competitiveness. The company also announced its brand slogan "Crafted by the Driven," with the company positioning its brand as a "value creator of a mobility life" with a vision to "pursue excellence without forgetting craftsmanship." The company stated that the Guangzhou Automobile brand will become a major brand in the Chinese automobile industry and aims to become an automobile brand with global influence by 2020.

  The OEM's booth clearly displayed the group name together with that of its Trumpchi own brand. While there were some luxurious gasoline models on display, mainly compact PHV and EV models were exhibited.

The Trumpchi EnSpirit concept car made its world premiere at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show and was unveiled for the first time in China. The concept has characteristics of a sedan, SUV, and a convertible, which indicates the design direction of future mass production models from Guangzhou Automobile.
The vehicle comes with a 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine and GAC Mechatronic Coupling (G-MC) motor. It is also equipped with connected functions that are popular with the younger generation. The detailed specifications have not yet been released.
Trumpchi GS7 The Trumpchi GS7 5-seater urban SUV made its world premiere at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show and was unveiled for the first time in China.
The vehicle comes with a 2.8L turbo engine or 3.2L turbo engine mated to a 6-speed AT. This model comes in all-wheel-drive. It has a length of 4,730 mm, width of 1,910 mm, height of 1,770 mm, and wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
Guangzhou Automobile's In-Joy system allows operation of Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife from a 10 inch center console panel, and also can be connected to a smart phone. Moreover, the navigation and infotainment information can be viewed on a 7 inch LCD instrument panel. Installing the In-Joy application in a smart phone allows users to start or stop the engine, toggle the lights, and control the air conditioning from a smart phone.

Trumpchi GE3 Guangzhou Automobile's first EV passenger vehicle made its world premiere at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show and was showcased in China for the first time.
It has a maximum output of 132 kW, maximum torque of 290 Nm, battery capacity of 46 kWh, and a range of 310 km. The battery can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes. It has a length of 4,346 mm, width of 1,825 mm, height of 1,637 mm, and wheelbase of 2,560 mm. The vehicle can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds.

Trumpchi GS4 PHEV A PHV version of the Trumpchi GS4 was unveiled for the first time. Some reports say that this model will be released in June 2017.

Trumpchi GA3S PHEV The prices for Guangzhou Automobile's 2nd PHV passenger vehicle, the Trumpchi GA3S PHEV, were announced. There will be 2 grades offered at CNY 164,800 and CNY 174,800. This model will be released on May 20, 2017.
