Analysis Report: Cockpit Module (Japanese Market)
Display transformation and switch function evolution
List of Suppliers
I. Introduction
Automobile cockpits have undergone dramatic changes over the past five years, driven by advances in interface technologies such as displays and IT. The design of cockpits, centered on IVI displays and meters, is also changing significantly in the Japanese market, and last year's Cockpit Report (Japanese Market) summarized the cockpit features of Japanese cars in the most recent three years (2022 to the first half (H1) of 2024). However, compared to changes in cars overseas, especially in China and Europe, the speed of change in the Japanese market has been somewhat slower, and in particular, the Japanese market has lagged behind in terms of larger display sizes. Of course, the size of the display is not an indicator of the quality of the HMI, and conversely, there are vehicles where operability has deteriorated due to larger displays and fewer physical switches, so there may be no need to consider this a problem. However, it is difficult to appeal to users with new appeal for products that have little change in appearance, so a major challenge for future cockpit development is how to create new product appeal while ensuring safe and secure operability.
This report analyzes cockpit trends in Japanese cars that address such issues, focusing on vehicles launched in the Japanese market since last year's report and vehicles exhibited at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show (including concept vehicles).
