From July 30 to August 9, 2026, the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), organized by GAIKINDO (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries) was held at the ICE BSD (Indonesia Convention Exhibition Hall) in Tangerang, a suburb of Jakarta. This year's event, the 33rd of its kind, was the largest ever, with 65 brands exhibiting. According to the organizers, the number of visitors reached 496,378, and the total number of test drives exceeded 26,000, representing an increase of approximately 30% compared to the previous year.
Indonesian automakers (OEMs) are expanding their electrified vehicle (xEV) lineups through technology partnerships with Chinese companies, leveraging their local sales and service networks. In addition to commencing operations at its local plant, VinFast LLC (VinFast) aims to further expand its business in the mobility market by pursuing partnerships with major Indonesian taxi companies. Korean OEMs, who were the first to enter the market, are aiming to make a market share comeback by introducing new models. Japanese OEMs are making progress in strengthening their local operations, including the introduction of new xEVs and other initiatives such as Mazda's announcement of the construction of a new plant.
