Production volume of new energy vehicles (electric vehicles [EVs], plug-in hybrid vehicles [PHVs], and fuel cell vehicle [FCVs]; excluding vehicles equipped with lead-acid batteries) in March 2016 in China increased by 54% year-over-year (y/y) and by 168% month-over-month (m/m) to 22,129units. Production volume of new energy vehicles in the first quarter of 2016 increased by 1.72-fold y/y to 46,700 units. Passenger EVs accounted for nearly half of the new energy vehicle production share in March 2016. Production volume on a year-over-year and month-over-month basis for special-purpose EVs and passenger PHVs increased, but that for plug-in hybrid buses declined. By vehicle type, passenger cars accounted for 76%, buses accounted for 16%, and special-purpose vehicles accounted for 8% of the new energy vehicle production share in March 2016.
