BYD Yangwang U8 Teardown Survey: Sensory Quality of Door Trim
Comprehensive analysis of interior design and texture expression
Summary
MarkLines Co., Ltd. (MarkLines) purchased a top-of-the-line BYD Yangwang U8 (base price approx. JPY 23 million), which is BYD Co. Ltd.'s (BYD’s) flagship model introduced into the large off-road vehicle market as part of its expanding product lineup. MarkLines began a vehicle teardown survey in August 2024 at our newly established MarkLines Benchmark Center in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture. Although it is not scheduled for release in Japan, the U8 is attracting attention as a flagship model that demonstrates BYD's technological capabilities. We will investigate (partially disassemble) the interior parts of the vehicle and takes a close look at the sensory expression and design ingenuity.
The Yangwang U8 was launched in the Chinese market in April 2023. It was also exhibited at the Japan Mobility Show that year. The four wheels are driven by four independent electric motors, giving the vehicle powerful off-road capabilities, such as the ability to perform super-tight turns (tank turns) on the spot to change direction, and the ability to navigate in water up to 1m deep for short periods of time. The number of units sold in China (factory shipments) in 2025 was 2,177. According to some reports, it is expected to be launched in Europe in 2027.
