VW plant in Puebla, Mexico has more than 700 workers opt for voluntary leave

On April 3, Volkswagen de Mexico and its union announced that more than 700 people accepted one of the three voluntary leave options the company offered at its assembly plant in Puebla, Mexico in order to readjust its workforce.
The deadline to accept any of the three proposals ended on March 29.
VW had offered a two-year temporary leave, in which workers would receive one full year of salary and benefits, and be placed in the same or a similar position upon being rehired at the end of the two-year absence.
The second offering was a definitive voluntary retirement, with a settlement equivalent to 200% of their salary, plus a bonus of USD 20,000.
The third alternative for the workers was a transfer, either to the Audi plant in San Jose Chiapa, or to the engine plant in Silao, although there was no guarantee that their new work would be permanent, in which case, employees would also receive a 200% annual salary settlement.
