Canadian vehicle sales rise 6.3% in October

Canadian vehicle sales in October were up 6.3% from the same month in 2016, to 164,214 units.
SUV and pickup sales, at 115,417 units, were up 13.6% in October and passenger car sales, at 48,797 units, were down 7.9% compared to 2016.
Canadian vehicle sales of 1,755,898 units for the first ten months of 2017 were up 5.6% from the same period in 2016, with passenger car sales down 2.2% and SUV and pickup sales up 9.7%.
Combined sales in October for the Detroit Big 3 were up 4.6% to 65,126 units, while sales of all foreign nameplates combined were up 7.4% to 99,088 units.
Of the Big Three manufacturers, GM was up 26.5% and Ford was down 2.0%, while FCA was down 11.9% from last October.
Among Japanese automakers, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Subaru were up in October 9.0%, 13.1%, 2.4%, and 2.6%, respectively.
Hyundai sales were up 1.5%, while Kia sales were up 0.4% from last October.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz sales were up 11.8% and BMW brand sales were up 1.6% from last October.
VW brand sales were up 31.5% in October compared to the previous year, while Audi sales were up 11.3%.
