Canadian vehicle sales in August were up 6.9% from the same month in 2016, to 183,945 units.
SUV and pickup sales, at 124,849 units, were up 10.1% in August, as passenger car sales, at 59,096 units, were up 0.8% compared to last year.
Canadian vehicle sales of 1,404,847 units for the first eight months of 2017 were up 5.3% from the same period in 2016, with passenger car sales down 1.6% and SUV and pickup sales up 8.9%.
Combined sales in August for the Detroit Big 3 were up 3.8% to 75,915 units, while sales of all foreign nameplates combined were up 9.3% to 108,030 units.
Of the Big Three manufacturers, GM sales were up 28.5%, while Ford sales were down 5.9% and FCA sales were down 9.2% from last August.
Among Japanese automakers, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Subaru brand sales were up in August 7.7%, 6.1%, 13.8%, and 9.7% respectively.
Hyundai sales were down 10.9%, while Kia sales were up 15.0% from last August.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz sales were up 13.4%, as BMW brand sales were up 3.1% from last August.
VW brand sales were up 71.9% in August compared to the previous year, while Audi sales were up 26.8%.
