German car sales rise 1.5% in July

On August 2, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 283,080 new passenger car registrations in July, an 1.5% increase from the same month last year.
Year-to-date registrations of 2,070,106 vehicles in the first seven months of the year represented an increase of 2.9% from the same period in 2016.
Volkswagen brand sales of 49,468 units (17.5% market share) decreased 13.2% in July compared to the same month in 2016.
Mercedes sales of 30,046 units (10.6% share) increased 18.1% from last year.
Audi sales of 26,453 units (9.3% share) increased 0.3% in July.
BMW sales of 21,416 units (7.6% share) increased 7.3% from last year.
Ford sales of 20,119 units (7.1% share) decreased 5.7% from the same month last year.
Opel sales of 19,430 units (6.9% share) increased 2.6% in July.
Sales of 24,558 trucks in July represented a increase of 5.1% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 470 buses represented an decrease of 4.3%.
In July, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 56.0% market share, diesel vehicles had a 40.5% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 307,700 units had decreased 8% and domestic production of 371,700 units had decreased 9% from last July.
