Brazilian vehicle sales up 13.5% in June, production up 15.1%

The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in June increased 13.5% year-over-year (y/y) to 194,954 units.

Among by maker sales of passenger vehicles, General Motors saw an increase of 16.9% to 29,153 units. Fiat Chrysler’s sales increased 27.4% to 24,200 units. VW’s sales increased 7.3% to 18,021 units. For light commercial vehicles, FCA’s sales increased 0.4% to 10,742 units, VW’s sales increased 18.0% to 4,894 units. GM's sales increased 39.7% to 4,455 units.

The Federacao Nacional da Distribuicao de Veiculos Automotores announced passenger vehicle sales rankings by model for the month. The GM Onix took the top spot with sales of 14,923 units. The Hyundai HB20 was number 2 with 9,715 units, followed by the Renault Sandero with 9,087 units. For LCVs, the Fiat Toro took the top spot with sales of 5,579 units, followed by the Fiat Strada with 4,024 units, and the VW Saveiro was number 3 with 3,631 units.

In ANFAVEA’s sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible-fuel vehicles increased 14.9% y/y to 168,395 units (market share of 88.9%), diesel vehicles was up 9.4% from a year ago with 15,050 units (market share of 7.9%), gasoline vehicles declined 6.2% to 5,800 units (market share of 3.1%), and hybrid and electric vehicles jumped 161.5% to 238 units.

As for June production figures (excluding CKD production), units produced increased 15.1% to 212,281 units. Exports in June increased 40.9% to 66,059 units.
